We're thinking about throwing a little dinner party for some friends in the next few weeks. We were going to serve Sazeracs beforehand. (We have a new cat we named Sazerac) What are some dishes that would go with the cocktail? My wife read something that said jambalaya would work.....

TIA

I've never tried to pair it with food, its always been a pre dinner drink or just a drinking drink

Sazeracs aren't meant to accompany food so serve whatever you like. If you're serving wine (which is meant to accompany food) a loose rule of thumb is red with meat and white with fish or chicken.

Count me as another person who doesn't understand pairing cocktails and "real" food. Pre-meal, sure. Or with super salty, intensely flavored snacks, yes. But hard liquor and a multi course meal? No thanks. Any subtlety and nuance in flavor disappears in the face of booze.

I think they'd go well with pasta. I drank about a half dozen Old Fashioned's while eating Tortellini last weekend, it was a good meal.

Yeah, I think of Sazerac as pre or post meal drink as well.

I love capping a meal off with any type of bourbon/whiskey/rye drink.

Y'all are probably right. You don't really have to worry about liquor pairings...not like it's wine or beer. I may do a jambalaya anyhow, because I haven't done one in a while and they're fun to cook...

i agree with everyone. No real food pairings but i would do a New Orleans inspired meal.

Whatever you do dont get nasty cheap rye

I'm a big fan of Bulliet rye, I usually keep the bar stocked with a fifth, especially around the holidays. But for this, I'll go official and buy Sazerac rye

I actually prefer the Bulliet to the 6yr Sazerac. Handy and Saz18 blow the 6yr away but I wouldnt use either of those for a Sazerac cocktail

After a half dozen mixed drinks, you could have been eating cat food and still enjoyed it.
