Thanks for being a placeholder Metairie/Kenner but it's back where it belongs:
nola.com
There will be an uptick in Chicken Dancing, dachshund racing, and imbibing from beer steins on Moss Street in Mid-City this October as the Deutsches Haus Oktoberfest celebration moves from Kenner's Rivertown to a spot on Bayou St. John near the entrance to City Park, according to the Oktoberfest website.
The location of the 2017 fall festival is an empty space at 1700 Moss Street between Esplanade Avenue and Desaix Boulevard slated to become the Deutsches Haus' future home.
The former Deutsches Haus German cultural center stood on South Galvez Street from 1928 until 2011 when it was demolished to make way for the massive medical complex being built in the area.
The Deutsches Haus has operated on Ridgewood Street in Metairie since then, presenting the annual Oktoberfest celebration in the Rivertown Exhibition Hall, 415 Williams Blvd. in Kenner.
The three-weekend event, which highlights German food and music, will take place from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays October 6-7,13-14, and 20-21. The cost to attend the event is $8, with kids under 12 free. Prost!

It used to be a blast in the old location in the city. I'm excited that they are finally moving forward with getting their new place built.

It really was.. The history of the Deutsches Haus, the German people, food, music and beer have always been great.

Great news for that area. The Children's Museum will be completed around the same time and located just across the bayou.
Once built, will the beerhall at the new location only serve members and act as a meeting space or will it operate as a typical bar/restaurant? I never went to the old one so not sure how it worked.

I had gone in there and bought a beer at the old location. I did not venture to the Metairie location though.

Even in Kennahbrah, Oktoberfest is an excellent time. Liters of German beer and platefuls of wurst. Glad it is coming back to Mid City, on the site of the Confederate Soldiers Home no less.

Everyone is welcome to drink at the bar at Deutsches Haus whether a member or not. Come for trivia (4th Friday night every month) or any of the other public events, or just come grab a bier when the bar is open. Check the website for details.
