Dear Mavens:

One of my neighbors is having to head to Dallas for work tomorrow. Any local beers that aren't distributed in the Houston area he should pick up for us to try?

Thanks in advance.

Revolver Blood & Honey is awesome.

Don't know if Lakewood is sold in Houston, but I'm a big fan of their Temptress stout.

the guys at Oak Highlands are putting out some interesting stuff. their Tripel is called Freaky Deaky (10%ABV) and i personally like DFDub their Dunkelweis (7%). They're also one of the few breweries making a dortmunder - it's called Golden Mustache (5.5%).

they have the typical IPAs and stuff, but that's mainly for market demand. they're passion is German beers.

they're on store shelves at most places in cans, but they have a tap room too.

a buddy of mine started it so i'm slightly biased FWIW.

I dig Deep Ellum Blonde (golden ale good with crawfish). It's good but probably not as different as some of the other beers I mention below.

Also really like Peticolas Velvet Hammer (9% ABV). Revolver Blood and Honey is solid, but sometimes I find the taste to be inconsistent from bottle to bottle. Franconia and Rahr & Sons both but out really good stuff.

Meh....they are pretty average IMO....but like you said, they brew german style stuff which is pretty boring anyway. But thats to be expected with the head brewer they hired. Simms is a nice guy but plays it safe.
