Having some for breakfast with colleagues and we're wondering if they are just a Northern product or given the same fame all over the state.

originally the meat pies were made by the native americans who were in the area. i want to say that was the caddo-adai tribe.

however many native american tribes have made meat pies.

The Francis Deli (In St Francisville) has some amazing meat pies plain and crawfish.

But hell, I also like Krispy Krunchy's meatpies even though I'm pretty certain they come frozen off a truck.

There are differences in Natchitoches in Meat Pies. Lasyones meat pies have more "gravy" or juice and the consistency of the meat is different than most places.

Don't know if their made the same but they are just called meat pies down here.
They're good for a drunking snack.

Frozen product from a wholesaler, not homemade. Almost everyone in the area gets them frozen. not many homemade if any at all.

Making your own meat pies is pretty easy. I use store-bought pie crusts without sweetener (you have to check the label).

The traditional recipe for the crust has a leavening agent. I don't like the crust to be puffy, that's why I use regular pie crust. They are the best meat pies you ever ate.

on my way to Dulac this weekend.. I was determined to find a place that had some good meat pies because of the thread last week.

At the last gas station you pass which is 10 or so miles from SoCo, i stopped in Sarah's to get some beer. I made the mistake to ask if she knew where to get good meat pies. She said we sell them. I said oh really because the kitchen part was not open.

I bought one and

Dont know what the frick was in that meat pie. Thankful i didnt get food poisoning

Most of the stores in south la use frozen pies. They come from Cenla, but they're not that good as served. They are usually held under a heat lamp for hours. And 99% of the crawfish ones are frozen and from one supplier.

The "Natchitoches Meat Pies" you see in the freezer section, and that many restaurants and caterers serve, are made at a plant in Coushatta, about 30 miles north of Natchitoches.

Their red beans are much better than any in South Louisiana.

A good read

Good luck with that.

ETA:
I've seen many meat pie recipes and I don't see anything that makes "Natchitoches" style stand out as different. Just like how you hear "new orleans style" all the time but it's not any different. It's marketing
