Anyone ever use chicken stock for a seafood gumbo? I'v done it before and remember it being fine. Last seafood gumbo I made with shrimp and crab stock just seemed to be to much seafood going on. Thinking about trying it again.

It won't hurt anything but I think you do need some sort of seafood stock in it for flavor. I made one last weekend and used frozen shrimp stock. Didn't have enough so added chicken stock. Tasted great!

It works for me. I throw gumbo crabs, shrimp shells, etc in the chicken stock and cook it down in the pressure cooker and strain.

Not for me, thanks.

In an absolute emergency, I would use vegetable stock over chicken stock.

I've done it. It was still an excellent seafood gumbo.

Chicken stock will be okay, but I like a pretty strong shrimp or seafood stock in seafood gumbo. If you thought yours was strong in taste, you could dilute it with water or chicken stock. Could be the seafood you used that time.
