They're perfect for the sandwiches I make. Publix in gulf coast area has the ones I'm looking for. Trying to find these at a bakery in Baton Rouge area. I've seen some "hard rolls" that were actually soft. Anyone know of a place that has real Chicago Hard Rolls?

Can't help you with a retail source, but this hard roll recipe from King Arthur Flour makes an excellent bread: LINK

Lived in Chicago for 30 years and never heard of Chicago Hard Rolls.

Please explain?

P.S. Maybe you're talking about Kaiser rolls?

Or the bread most commonly used for Italian beef?

That's funny. So maybe i shouldn't call them "real"! But that's what Publix calls them!
