Charbroil Tru Grills

Anyone have comments on these? My grill died this weekend. Was a charbroil and lasted 8 years. I liked the brand, had no problems and probably will buy the same brand.
They now have the regular gas grills and the Tru grill that supposedly cooks more evenly, no flare ups, etc?
Is the Tru model worth the extra cost (about $100) or is this a marketing thing and actually cooks no better than the regular gas models?

i did some research about a year ago and was veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery close to buying one then i started seeing horror stories of how quickly they would rust.
ended up getting a weber and have never looked back.

I have one, use it often and like it a lot
but you'll need to clean the IR tray pretty regularly

I had a CharGriller Duo. Liked the idea of coal/smoker combo, and the convenience of gas when I just wanted to fire it up for something quick. The cover got a hole in it, and I eventually just quit using it. The gas side rusted out pretty bad. Not sure if the cover would have made much difference.
So I sold it to some rednecks who only wanted it for the coal/smoker side, and then I:

If this is the IR grill I hate it.

It's made out of some cheap bullshite Chinese tin foil alloy. The only thing stainless is the lid. Cooks fine but the guts won't hold up. Look elsewhere if you're wanting to get some life out of it.

Get a Weber. 8 years sounds like a long time for a grill to last, but my weber is about 8 years old and still looks/cooks like new.

cleaning is a bitch.
grates are too wide for most wire brushes and the cleaning tool they sell is worthless. what normally would fall into the bottom of the grill falls on top of the IR pan and it dusts pretty quickly.
crock of shite. put something with bacon on there and watch the blaze !
never again

An 8 year-old Weber is still just a baby...

I've had the 2 burner one for 4 years now. No problems whatsoever with it.
It cooks very evenly. I think the super high temp thing is a little overblown, but my favorite thing is no flare ups. I can put stuff on and walk away without fear of it getting engulfed in flames.
Mine has been kept mostly outside, with a grill cover but no other cover. It also spent 2 winters in Iowa, so it lived through tons of snow/cold.

Had one some years ago. Didn't last 2 years with a cover on it. Bought a Weber about 3 years ago that looks new and cooks light years better than the Charbroil. Spend the extra money

Got a chargriller thanks to the advice from the board. Love it. It was $160 at lowes

I appreciate all of the Weber comments, but I plan for this grill to be a short term grill and not looking to invest in the cost of a Weber at this point. (Will make that commitment when we build the outdoor kitchen in a few years)
Not as concerned with the life of the grill, just want to be sure it cooks well. From the comments it looks like going away from the IR is the way to proceed and not complicate things.

Just bought a Saber...sweet grill...quality stainless...heavy as hell though.

Buy this one, it's well worth every penny.

I've got one and it cooks great, but the IR grates rusted out much quicker than expected. About 2 years and I'm about to have to replace them. I'd go for one that has the ceramic coated cast iron grates in addition but that's a personal note. I also have no experience with weber so I'm definitely biased.

I have a Weber 3 burner from 2002 still going strong. Just replaced the drip pan mounting brackets last summer as they were rusting out. Also replaced the starter and it is still working great. There's some other rust spots that are starting to creep up, but I'm hoping my cover will keep it well protected. Everything else is still original. My next grill will definitely be the newer version of that one, unless I do a built in or something.

Brinkmann shits on Weber when considering cost vs. quality/life
