In an ideal world with an ideal bank account, I wouldn't think twice about it, and buy a higher end kamado style grill. However, I don't want to shell out that kind of cash.
I'd like to know if any of you have used the Char Griller Akorn and what you think about it? Quality? Longevity? If I buy it, am I going to need to upgrade in a couple of years? Any comments are appreciated.

I was in the same boat about 4 months ago. I did a solid 3 months of research beforehand and ended up pulling the trigger on a Vision Kamado. I could literally list 100 reasons why it is just as good as a BGE or KJ. They are all super heavy, well made kamados. the vision is made from the same high heat ceramic as the others. I'm 4 months in and i can't say one bad thing about it. ive done steaks, burgers, ribs, chicken, salmon and it is all the best food ive ever grilled. since buying mine, 4 other people i know have bought one based on my recommendation and trying food from it. they all love it. i will say that the big green egg accessories are all i use like the heat deflector, pizza stone, rib rack, etc because they are just better designed. the vision has a 5 star rating and is very well known. I have pasted the link to SAMs where i bought mine from. they are 100.00 cheaper there than if you buy it from any other place that carries them.
i looked at the acorn, but it is poor quality and will rust. it is only ceramic coated on the inside. a guy at work has one and he regrets buying it. he will get a vision like mine once his finally gives out completely.
check out kamadoguru.com. they too have reviews of the vision and can back up everything im telling you. let me know if you have any questions.

I've got 2 of the char grillers, older ones with the crappy wooden side shelves. They are ok for the money. I've got one that sits out in the weather and the ash dump will fill up with water when it rains, so splurge on a cover. I've held a 250-ish fire for a good 8 hours.
At sub $300 I'd buy another if needed.
