Friend and his wife will be in late Sunday afternoon leaving on a cruise Monday. Just because I'm originally from Louisiana I get asked for N.O. recommendations all the time even though i haven't been to the city in 5 years. What's a good casual place for them to have a few drinks and some good food.

Mandina's fits that description. If they're staying downtown pre-cruise, just hop the streetcar down Canal.

Sorry

Didn't realize that. I thought butcher was the only link restaurant open Sunday and that was just until mid afternoon

Sunday evenings are typically slow in the city so it shouldn't be hard to find a spot. Since it's just an overnight adventure and you've got a cruise ahead of you, I would just walk somewhere in the FQ or CBD depending on your hotel.

If FQ,
21st Amendment is good for cocktails.
Kingfish, Coop's Place or Mr B's for dinner and drinks

If CBD,
Sazerac is legit as it gets for cocktails but bring your wallet as drinks are $15 each
Domenica in the same hotel (The Roosevelt) has awesome Neopolitan pizza. The Uptown location is an original project from Chef Alon Shaya before he opened Shaya and got famous.

Peche as others have mentioned is one of the best restaurants in the city.

Cochon (not Butcher) is close by and open Sunday evenings. Casual.

I second Cochon.

Peche is another great option.

Consider the crudo and whole fish offerings. Always top notch.

Yep to both. I personally prefer the whole redfish to the snapper.

When did his restaurants open on Sundays?

I think it was a pretty good while ago. I remember seeing them post about it on their Facebook page which I follow. Could have been in the Spring, possibly.

I'll take just about any whole roasted fish they have. They do such a bang up job on those. I can't come close to eating a whole fish, though. You really need a few folks to share it.

My niece had a great dish there in June when we went. I think it was snapper with a sort of Thai flavored creamy sauce and coconut rice balls. Really flavorful. I regretted not ordering it myself, though I did get quite a few tastes since I had a small plate.
