What's the rules? Wife and I like to go to a nice dinner once a week but it's getting too pricey.. I normally drop $150 - $200 each time. Typically alcohol (wine) half the bill. Im thinking BYOW is the solution but I don't want to be cheesy.

If the place will allow it, bring a few good bottles
I do this from time to time

They may charge a corking fee

$800 a month on eating out? I don't care how much money you have, that's just fricking ridiculous.

Bring your own bottle. We bring good bottles all the time. Try to bring something not of the restaurant's wine list and offer the waiter a taste. Totally commonplace. Typical corkage fees are $15-$25

Crap. I think I'm at least $150 a week eating out. Sometimes much more. Hmmm... will have to start keeping track.

If you're in nola, places like Lebanon and Cafe Degas have a cork fee and encourage you to bring your own wine.

Is there a list of restaurants that let you BYOW?

LOL to the think spending 800 per month eating out is too much. My AMEX annual statement says last year I spent 17k at restaurants. That doesn't include the money I spend on my work card when traveling.

To each his own, but that is pretty ridiculous

I probably spend about 6-7k at restaurants and I kinda hate myself for it

Someone asked me if my crawfish boil was BYOB and BYOW. I thought that meant "bring your own weed".

Yeah- I will say that I do have a tough time finding places to go because everything seems generic at times. The variety in Ascension parish sucks. However when on the road I get to try some new stuff.

Just went to Cafe Degas and I'm not sure where you get that they encourage bringing in wine. We went to swirl and got two bottles, only to see a full wine menu at the restaurant. We drank one of them, $15 cork fee, since we were interested in it more than the menu wines, but they offered comparable ones. A couple that sat next to us brought a nice red in, so we didn't feel bad. Wondering where you get 'encourage' from though?
