Butter Chicken - with pics

I have become a huge fan of Indian food and have been experimenting a lot with different dishes. Have made some really good curry dishes and chana masala. I wanted to try my hand at butter chicken and found a recipe that turned out great. I am going to share the steps with pics. I did forget to take a few pics during some steps but no big deal.
Step 1: Cut 2-3 chicken breasts into bit size chunks and marinate them for 15 minutes in 1 tsp of chili powder and 1 tsp of turmeric.
Step 2: Brown chicken in 2 tablespoons of butter. May need to do this in two batches but should not need to add more butter. Once browned set aside on a plate.
Step 3: Add two more tablespoons of butter and about a teaspoon of mustard seeds. The mustard seeds were not in the original recipe so feel free to leave out if you do not have them on hand. Sautee one small onion or half of a large.
Step 4: After onions begin to soften add in 3 minced cloves of garlic and about half a tablespoon of minced ginger. Once fragrant add in 3 teaspoons of garam masala, 1 tsp of chili powder, 1 tsp of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne (or 1 full teaspoon if you really like it hot) and 1 stick of cinnamon. Let sautee for a few seconds, long enough to smell and add in one can of tomato sauce. Mix well.
Step 5: Bring to simmer, stirring to make sure nothing sticks. Add in 1 cup of water and 1 cup of heavy cream.
Step 6: Bring back to a simmer for 2-3 minutes and add in cooked chicken. Cover and simmer chicken for 10-15 minutes to ensure chicken is cooked through and tender.
Serve over basmati rice and a side of naan. Wine optional.

Edited to add the cayenne pepper. Can't forget that, Indian food needs some spice.

That looks really good, and not too complicated.
One of my favorite new food products is the naan they sell in the grocery store. I figured it would be awful, but it is really good bread if you toss it on the grill, stove burner, or toaster for a bit.

Thanks everyone. The recipe is really easy to follow. If you cook Indian food you should have all the spices on hand so it is relatively cheap, as well. If you like Indian then I definitely suggest giving this a go. You can tweak it however you like once you make it and see how it tastes.
I will add to recipe thread later.
The naan is from Trader Joes and it is legit. I have only had better at Curry N' Kebab. Even other Indian restaurants don't have naan as good as Trader Joes.

I agree, would love to have a step-by-step with pics for that. Love getting it at Rama.

That really does look good. But damn, son... Would yogurt be a good substitute for SOME of that cream?
The seventh photo from the top...

I am sure it would work just fine but we want full flavor when making Indian at home. We usually do low-carb so this recipe works really well served over riced cauliflower. Yogurt will have carbs, cream will not.

Yeah, seems like a great recipe for that type of diet. I know I should just follow the damned recipe and eat a smaller portion, but it's difficult with Indian food. It's too good!

Oh yeah. I'm no Indian food expert, but just about everything I've tried is delicious. Butter chicken is a great place to start. It's hard to for me not to order every time we get Indian food.

That looks terrific and I'm not a big chicken fan.

I LOVE Indian food, but you won't catch me making that stuff in my house. That smell simmers in the walls.
