Anybody tried this? I have a friend that claims she has lots of energy and focus when she has it for breakfast. I am generally a believer in low carb diets and eating fat, but this seems so strange.

It tastes pretty good and it has worked for me but I only use it periodically. Hi Volt in the LGD has some on the menu, but it's cheaper to make it at home.

I like the taste and it does keep you full.

I seem to have better "cognition" if I use the MCT oil.

My only worry for some people would be if they used it too much as a meal replacement and missed out on nutrition that typically comes packaged with meals.

The version I make really isn't very decadent. About 1 tbsp MCT oil and 1.5 tbsp grassfed butter.

You're halfway there. What's strange? MCTs are a great source of energy.

my method:

1 cup coffee
1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil
1 tbsp grass-fed unsalted butter
1/2 tbsp heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
stevia to taste if you desire

The bulletproof coffee shtick is pure marketing genius. I need to devise my own quack nutritional racket, that guy is making bank. If "regular" coffee is full of mold toxins, then why drink it at all? Plenty of other sources of caffeine....why not pop a caffeine tablet and eat the butter & coconut oil off of a spoon? Americans love food fads....which used to come from diet/exercise reformers and religious movements, but now seem to be emanating from tech circles in Cali.

A quality coffee shop doesn't serve that shite. 'Regular' coffee you are talking about means Starbucks. I'm sure you have ample fitness and nutritional qualifications to discredit the numerous professional athletes who use bulletproof though.

As if the professional athletes aren't being paid? Please. Eat/drink whatever makes you feel better....but it's no more scientific than the zillion claims made for yogurt, or kombucha, or (insert your fave trend from the past 100 years of US food faddism, from granola and graham crackers to the gluten avoiding hordes).

I've had a BPC damn near every day for the last year and a half and not one has come from Dave Asprey. While he may own the trademark, coffee and oil and butter and heavy cream drinkers are way more wide spread than his enterprise.

I'll have to check out Hi-Volt. I know they do crazy salads, but never venture that way.

Oh yogurt isnt good for you now? Yea, ok.

I appreciate healthy skepticism (no pun intended) but there's a difference between that and sounding like a fatass shitting all over people trying to be healthy.

Thanks for all the input! I am going to try this! So you just dump it all in a blender?

Wife puts together what would be a French press full of coffee but does not plunge it. Puts it in the fridge overnight and we have "iced coffee" with it during the summer.

2 tbsp grass fed butter
2-3 tbsp MCT oil
1.5 tbsp cream
Pinch of salt. Sometimes cinnamon.
No sugar

Blend with immersion stick. We split that so cut in half for single serve

It's so freaking good and yes I absolutely feel the difference when I just drink regular coffee. I have to keep myself from drinking it so fast because MCT can give me heartburn.

Most who aren't into 'out there' diets wouldn't believe it but our macros roughly break down to 50% if our calories coming from fats, 35% from protein, 15% from carbs. I've never been in better shape. I'll eat like this as long as she wants me to I love it.

Does she use hot water? Try doing this the cold brew method.

I've tried it. Didn't have that problem.
It definitely diminished the urge to snack, and didn't make me feel amped or that dirty feeling caffeine usually gives me. Diet matters, obviously, with it's effectiveness.

I must be behind on all this.

What's the point of adding fat to coffee?

from here (obviously written from a Ketogenic diet standpoint)

MAIN COMPONENTS BULLETPROOF COFFEE

Coconut Oil or MCT Oil – Coconut oil technically is MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) oil, well about 65-80% MCT anyway. MCT oil is just more concentrated than coconut oil, but both have been shown to aid in fat loss. I use coconut oil because, to me, it gives it a nice taste and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper where I live!

Grass Fed Butter – Cows that have a diet of fresh grass yields butter that has improved consistency and nutritional properties. The increase of fresh grass in the diet proportionally increases the amount of fat content, specifically unsaturated fats, which gives a pleasant firmness. The nutritional quality also increases, it’s loaded with Vitamin K2 and Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

Immersion Blender – Go on and try to mix this up with a fork, you’ll be sitting there for 20 minutes and having terrible results. Oil doesn’t mix with water unless you give it some help. You need a blender to be able to force these 2 liquids together, giving you a finished look like a latte – foamy on the top.

BENEFITS OF BULLETPROOF COFFEE

Fat Loss. Plain and simple, the consumption of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) has been shown to lead to greater losses in adipose tissue (fat tissue), in both animals and humans.

Eating Fat? Do I even need to explain this one? Eating fat has been shown to lead to greater amounts of energy, more efficient energy usage, and more effective weight loss.

More Energy. Studies have shown that the rapid rate of oxidation in MCFAs (Medium Chain Fatty Acids) leads to an increase in energy expenditure. Primarily, MCFAs are converted into ketones (our best friends), are absorbed differently in the body compared to regular oils, and give us more overall energy.
