Is brunch at The Court of Two Sisters good? My family recommends it, but I want more opinions. I'll be in New Orleans for a long weekend soon and am looking for good, quintessential New Orleans brunch spots. I want to do at least one brunch in the FQ as I'm travelling with people who will be in NOLA for the first time so I thought a FQ brunch would be cool. I'm also thinking of hitting up Atchafalaya for brunch too.

So do you recommend Two Sisters? Any other ideas in the FQ or around town? Thanks!

It's not horrible, but there are many better brunches in town.
#1 on my list is Commanders Palace

I would take a first timer to Brennan's for a FQ brunch.

If Commander's is out, I honestly enjoy Arnaud's old New Orleans style brunch. Menu has a lot of traditional brunch offerings in addition to other dishes and it's very festive.

Went to Brennan's for brunch and wasn't as impressed as I expected. Nor were the folks with me. I may go back, but it will not be for brunch.

For Arnaud's, does it matter if I go to the main restaurant or the Jazz Bistro? Is the Sunday Jazz Brunch only in the Jazz Bistro?

Which one do you recommend for brunch?

I need some clarification on the Arnaud's vs Arnaud's Jazz Bistro thing.

I've had brunch in both the main dining room and the jazz bistro. For first time visitors, I'd ask for the main dining, but either is fine. Menus are the same and you should know that you can order from the ala carte menu as well. I always get the oysters arnaud and that dish isn't listed on the brunch menu, I don't believe. Neither are the souffled potatoes and we always order those right away.

The jazz trio hits both the main dining and the bistro area.

One more thing- you definitely recommend going for brunch on a Sunday versus a Friday or Saturday, right?

I'm trying to plan out this long weekend and the endless options are overwhelming. It's like a chess game.

Depends on the restaurant as to whether there is an option for brunch on a day other than Sunday. Sunday is the traditional brunch day and that's what I prefer.

Commander's has it on Saturdays and Sundays. Not sure about Atchafalaya. I like brunch, but I wouldn't want two days of brunch.

Aside from Commander's where else are you planning to take your friends to eat?

I'm sure it was tasty but being served by some chick in a t-shirt is not what a "New Orleans Brunch Experience" is all about.

Broussard's and The Rib Room both deserve consideration.

Court of Two Sisters is a crummy tourist trap. Ask anyone who's ever worked there.

You're gonna be sorry you asked

This will be my girlfriend's first time in New Orleans. She's cool and down for whatever so I know she's gonna love it and "get" it. I want to give her a good cross-section of the city.

We get in on Thursday morning, but have to go to Covington to see my Aunt so lunch will be out there.

Thursday night- was thinking about some place like Bevi or R&O's to satisfy boiled seafood cravings and to show them that style of Louisiana dining. My family would usually go to Mandina's upon arrival but we've heard it's fallen off lately.

Friday breakfast- not sure of breakfast. Might just do Du Monde.

Friday lunch- might be Cochon or Casamento's or might just focus on Po-Boys at Domilise's or Crabby Jacks (probably too far out of the way). Maybe Pascale Manale's for bbq shrimp sandwiches.

Friday dinner- I have reservations at Mr. B's, but I think I might want to change that. I might go to Jacque-Imo's (then Maple Leaf Bar) instead.

Saturday- Atchafalaya for brunch. Mid-day snack at Peche or Felix's? Dinner will be at Commander's.

Sunday brunch- Arnaud's.

Sunday late lunch- a muffuletta at Central Grocery. Or boozy snack at Bacchanal or Bayou Beer/Wine Garden.

Sunday dinner- I don't know where to go- Upperline? Petit Grocery?

I was thinking of doing a crawl at Elizabeth's for breakfast then walking to Bacchanal too but there won't be time for that.

Is Pascale's Manale still good for that BBQ shrimp sandwich?

I just realize how ridiculous all of this sounds.

While I liked Elizabeth's when I last went, you make a good point.

I actually like Co2S mainly because I have a huge appetite and I can gorge myself there. My two favorite brunches though are Commanders and Brennan's, with Patois in close 3rd. Never cared for Arnauds.

I don't think they have a BBQ Shrimp sandwich. New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, which Pascal's Manale invented, isn't actually BBQ'd at all. It is sauteed, shell-on, in butter, black pepper, Worstechire, and some other seasonings.

Redfish Grill has a BBQ shrimp sandwich which is not BBQ'd either but fried and sloshed around in a Manale's-type sauce. While not traditional in any sense it is still pretty good.

Overall your list looks solid.

Bon appetit!

Pascal Manale's does indeed do a BBQ shrimp sandwich at lunch - and it is good.

Not to me. Every year, I go with my parents on a New Orleans food trip. We are all there other times of the year, but this trip is dedicated to eating out, so I get it. I'm about to have to plan it again.

I already mentioned that 2 brunches wouldn't interest me, personally, but if y'all are brunch people, go for it. I would change Atchafalaya for Peche, period. Maybe you could do Cafe du Monde in the early morning, but save room for Commander's if you're going there that night.

Y'all must be big eaters because I can't do 3 meals like that in one day! I skip breakfast and we do two meals a day.

Don't bother with Manale's. It's not what it used to be. I went back for nostalgic reasons several years ago and the shrimp were swimming in barely seasoned oil. Such a shame because the shrimp were just gorgeous and perfectly cooked. However, the oysters rock at Manale's is one of the best of it's kind.

I took someone who had not had bbq shrimp to Mr. B's over the summer. If that's the dish you'd like to showcase to your gf and friends, it's the best place to go for it, along with the gumbo. Those are two dishes to show newbies. Atmosphere is good and it's almost always hopping.

I love R&O's, but my favorite things there are the muff and the Italian combo. The muff is so much better than at Central Market to me.

It's been a few years since I've been to Upperline. I don't know how it's doing since all the chef changes, but I've enjoyed my meals there and it's a nice option on a Sunday night, but then so is La Petite, though it's not one of my favorites. Most people love it, though.

Casamento's is historic and quaint and funny in a way. I'd probably take newbies there just for the experience. The chargrilled oysters aren't the best in town, but they're worthy. Good place for lunch in my opinion. Drive around Uptown a bit after you eat.

I hope you'll report back. Might help me with some of my upcoming decisions.
