Zero fricks given where it's made and by whom - their French Vanilla is the best tasting ice cream I've ever had.

Other than nostalgia or, at least, familiarity, why are people so excited? I guess I've eaten Blue Bell a couple of times, but I don't remember it being anything special.

First flavor on the shelves released. Homemade vanilla.

Well that's a start. I was hoping they would have more than one flavor. I need Cookies N Cream !!!

quote:

The rollout will happen gradually, reports member station KERA, beginning with Homemade Vanilla being sold in some Texas stores next Monday. Other flavors will soon follow; the company says it will expand distribution as it upgrades its production facilities.

I didn't know Blue Bell had been around as long as they have.
quote:

"The first areas to get the ice cream? Brenham, where the company started in 1907, as well as Houston and Austin. Ice cream will also be sent to stores in Alabama (Birmingham and Montgomery), where the ice cream is being produced. North Texas and southern Oklahoma will be next, followed by stores in southwest Texas and central Oklahoma."

Think of Blue Bell like a snoball in New Orleans.

You grew up eating snoballs in the summer, but are they anything more than shaved ice and super sweet syrup? If Ro-Bears or Hansen's closed there would be a day of rememberance.

For people in Texas, it's something we grew up eating as kids, took field trips and toured the factory in Brenham. Is it mediocre...sure, but it's my childhood damnit!

Haagen Dazs >>>>>>> blue bell

well yeah Dazs is a superpremium ice cream

blue bell is a step below at premium ice cream

if you're willing to pay more there's no reason to get blue bell
quote:

Superpremium Ice Cream - These ice creams tend to have a very low overrun (as low as 20% even) and a high fat content (>14%), resulting in a very dense and rich product with a weight typically greater than 80g per 1/2 cup. They also typically use higher-end ingredients with a price point to match, and come in smaller containers with gourmet flavors. Examples: Haagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry's

Premium Ice Cream - Premium ice creams tend to have lower overrun (~60-90%) and higher fat content (11-15%) than regular ice cream, resulting in a heavier ice cream (weight of about 73g per 1/2 cup). Examples: Blue Bell, Baskin-Robbins

So far the 3 being released are:

Homemade vanilla
Dutch chocolate
Cookie and cream

My boss is wondering why I'm not at work, and when I told him I've been in line for a week, he understood.

Gagreee.. Blue Bell is just a Texas pride thing so others can enjoy their inferior product all they want. Just leave some shelf for this nectar of the gods right here...

Oh hell yeah, I was planning on avoiding any store that was selling Blue Bell on Monday. But I'll damn fist fight for Blue Bell Cookies and Cream.

I'll be there baby. There better not be any blue haired old ladies trying to grab the last half gallon of C-N-C or it will be on !!!
