Blue Apron?

Not sure if it's been discussed here or if this is old news and I'm behind the times, but I just heard about this service a few weeks ago.
The concept?
High quality ingredients for specific meals are shipped to you with the recipe and instructions enclosed. Subscriptions are for a couple or for a family. Deliveries, I believe, Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday. Runs about 10 bucks per person/serving.
Examples: Chicken and Sage Biscuit Pot Pie; Meyer Lemon Glazed Catfish with Ginger Collards and Cracled Freekeh Salad; Steak Tacos & Mole Verde with Radishes and Avocado.
Why? I guess for convenience and trying new things?
I'm almost tempted to try it out for a week just out of curiosity.

I signed up this week, they have some pretty good coupon codes that you can find on google that get you started. Talked with someone who is doing it now, pretty pricey bu good quality and gets you in the routine of cooking new things, i am on schedule to get once a month or so
also check out plated, same concept, maybe a little better food choices

I have some friends that appreciate it. My only concern is that it seems like a lot of wine clubs (i.e., a seemingly good deal at first glance, but there are always one or two items that aren't so appealing and that wind up being wasted).

We received one free shipment of three recipes and ingredients for two people. I thought the ingredients were excellent and very well packaged. I thought the recipe cards were well done.
What I didn't realize is that there is a fish meal in each three meal package. You can choose an alternate meal, but those seemed to be vegetarian. My husband doesn't eat fish and I didn't think a vegetarian meal would make us happy at that price point (because we'd likely add meat to the meal).

I have a buddy who uses Blue Apron weekly, and he really enjoys it. It's a nice idea that is great for people who live on the inside of the city and may not be as willing to drive to the grocery regularly.
It's probably worth a short term try, but I doubt I would use it often.

I've been using it for a couple months now. I think the recipes are really good and it gets you to cook things you normally wouldn't cook or even order in a restaurant. Also I've noticed that I'm saving a lot of money by not eating out as often and not buying nearly as many groceries. I don't agree with the comment of having fish in every weeks recipes. In the time I've been using it I've only had fish twice and have been able to get a non-vegetarian option instead

Hmm, I checked a few weeks ahead for upcoming menus and saw fish in all of them. And not another meat option. *shrug*

Fiance and I have used Blue Apron for the past few months.
Pros:
Meals are well proportioned for 2 (600-700 cal per serving and even as a kinda overweight male it fills me up)
The package includes the right quantity of all the ingredients. Except for garlic, where they send a whole head of garlic even when the recipe calls for 2-3 cloves. You're responsible for salt, pepper, and oil.
Cuts down on shopping as 3 meals per week are included in the delivery
You can skip weeks if desired
Cooking with ingredients you'd never try, combining flavors, etc. I've been pleasantly surprised a few times.
Cons:
I haven't been impressed with many of the fish dishes, I've now compensated by seasoning myself vs. the supplied seasoning and that's been a little better
They say you can swap out meals, but once you do it "blacks out" one of the main options - usually the one you were looking forward to, so it's better just to take what they recommend.
You end up zesting a lot of lemons, oranges, etc... which can be cumbersome.
Sometimes you just want to go out on a night when the package arrives, but out of guilt you end up just cooking.

I have noticed that with Blue Apron, Plated does not limit your choices and even gives you the opportunity to upgrade one meal to the "prime" choice for an additional fee (think lamb chops, halibut, etc)

Tried it a month or two ago. Meal was good but not great. Quality ingredients.
I didn't like how they have the steps laid out. You look at the card at a glance and you think "oh this is gonna be easy, 6 steps!" And then when it's time to actually cook you see there are 20 mini-steps in each step.. I wound up cooking one of the meals we got (We opted for 2 meals for 3 and having leftovers). It was nothing short of a pain in the arse, and I do cook very often.
However, take that with a grain of salt because I don't really like following recipes.
I'd recommend trying it at least once. I could see where maybe a once a month delivery would put a fun spin on the normal cooking routine.
