The worst part is if you google search "blackened brew in Hammond" this thread pops up quite a few times at the top of the search. Probably not what you'd like for a new restaurant that just opened.

I was literally just coming in here to say that same thing.

Leona, if by chance you ARE affiliated with this place or friends with them or whatever.. you really should stop. Edit your posts and pray this disappears.

I just Googled the restaurant to see if they had a Yelp page, and this thread was like the 3rd Google result. That is not a good thing.

Well this thread went off the rails after page 2. It's a shame how a nice conversation about a new place got destroyed so fast. I will still try it out, but this is just disgusting behavior, especially for a new business in a spot that has traditionally been impossible to succeed in (hell Louie and the Redheaded Lady lasted like 6 months and that was an established brand). Best of luck, and I hope to be impressed, but this is pretty childish.

Yeah. I came in on the tail end of this thread and my angst against improper grammar kicked in.

I did notice, however, that the 1st 2 pages were a typical review, good luck to the new owners, hope it succeeds type thread. The review wasn't even harsh. Just said the food was bland and they should try upping their game if they want to compete.

It went to shite after that.

Yup I read through the FB reviews after a few gave it a negative. Think most are friends and family. I mean in November they have one about the food and beer and place didn't open till Feb
So nothing surprising about them...

Heck that review compared them to Your Moms, which is my favorite place in Hammond, so it made me look forward to it, though it was meant to be a negative comment.

Why is this a hard location to succeed in? I'm genuinely curious. The Crescent has been next door for over 75 years. Mariner's and Brady's are across the street and around the corner, respectively, and have both been around at least 35 years.

Somebody bitched about the parking, but it's not that hard to find a spot on W. Thomas or the side streets. Worst case, you have to park a half block away by the tracks. Not that big of a deal.

I always assumed the other places failed because either their food wasn't good, was overpriced and/or service was lousy. Is it really the location?

i have no idea, its a great question.
when we moved to hammond ten years ago it was a thai restaurant, but they moved out. my recollection is that it has been some kind of bistro, which was terrible, louie and the redhead lady which came and went, pier 21 or something and then the hooked up place. we ate at all of them, none were memorable.

its a nice spot, there's plenty of places to park and as you said successful businesses all around it. maybe the rent is too high, who knows...

Thai Restaurant
Pier 112
Louis and the red heads
Montys
Hooked up

Now BB.

I really do think it more or less has to do with parking. Mariners in essence has parking behind even though its for Bradys. Plus they have the patio on the corner which helps them. People are lazy and don't want to walk, its unfortunate. Plus a lot has to do with pricing as well. Montys tried to take away from Jacmel and Tope La with their pricing structure and food. Louis & the red heads, Hooked up where just terrible.

I will say, I do find it funny watching people from Iron Horse and BB camps come on and bash each other indirectly. Although, I will give BB credit for not writing some negative towards the Iron Horse.

Hopefully both succeed, as more businesses in downtown Hammond, drive more traffic into downtown, which in turn helps all the businesses grow and succeed.

No, but you can clearly tell sluhammond has some association with them. One of those created an account only to post in this thread kind of posters.

I always thought it was a great spot, just it has been mismanaged apparently. I actually liked Pier 112 there but they fizzled and only got to try the terrible fried seafood restaurant that opened before Blackened Brew.
My buddies are still planning on going tonight and I believe I will still tag along, I will report my findings.

I really don't know and it's weird. I made it to Hammond right at the end of Pier 112, so don't know why that didn't last, but Louie and the Red Headed Lady had horrible food and service (got white beans and rice and the rice was raw, like uncooked raw). Tried Monty's and even with a group of 12-16 we had good service and good food so not sure what happened there. I didn't mind Hooked Up, but only went a couple times at the very beginning, from what I heard the quality took a dive.

I'm convinced it's the location because since Pier 112 closed Tacos and Beer, Your Moms, the Steakhouse, and Salad Station all opened downtown and survived. I know two of those fill niches, but two have pretty similar competition and managed to make it.

That was my point. He/she had his/her own agenda for signing up.

I am convinced the one in Hammond must be better than the one here. I went a couple days ago, and while it certainly wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing.

The fried mushrooms and homemade ranch were very good. The bun and toppings on my burger were also very good. But the burger patty itself was well over an inch thick, very well done, and zero seasoning whatsoever. It tasted just like plain cooked ground beef.

I will probably go back because it is so close, but I think I'll be getting a regular sandwich instead of a burger.
