Anyone out there have a decent recipe for homemade biscuits from scratch. My Dad used to make some of the best, but he took the recipe to his grave.

I use pioneer bisquit mix and add softened butter and sugar to recipe on box

Geauxts Catheads
This is exact, pay attention..
7 or 8 tablespoons of self rising flour.
About a tablespoon of baking powder.
About 2 forkfulls of lard, or crisco, butter flavored works pretty good.
Cut the lard into the flour with a fork.
Pour buttermilk or milk into the dry mix until the consistency is right.
Consistency is right when you can roll into a ball using your floured hands.
Have a cast iron skillet with a coating of lard standing by, or at least wipe some grease around in it with a paper towel.
Place in skillet, flatten the balls out a little and let them sit and rise back up for about 10 minutes.
Cook em on about 350 until they look ready.
This is an exact recipe, but, if you're at the camp and groceries are running out, beer or gingerale can be used for the milk, and if out of Crisco, mayonaise works pretty good..

Pretty similar to the one I use. The lard is key.

Bet they're not as good as Geauxt's!

Um, no offense and sorry for your loss, but what is that going to accomplish? When I leave this world I would like to leave a few things behind for my loved ones to enjoy.

very unfortunate....I'm sure he would have gotten a lot of pleasure from knowing that future generations were enjoying his recipe...
for this reason, I have started a compilation of my grandmothers' recipes...every time I see her, I just have her cook something that I remember her cooking for me as a child....I have to really watch, as she measures nothing...I expect this to really be a treasure to my family when she is gone....and she is just tickled with the idea now, which allows me to spend some real quality time with her...

He was never one to openly plan for or talk about death.

Thanks gents. It's getting cold and canned biscuits just don't get it.

I understand that. I guess in our family we pass down recipes to younger generations just in case. Like I said earlier, sorry for your loss...

Anybody ever use club soda in their biscuits?
Posted on 12/5/10 at 7:45 pm to hehatedrew
Totally understand. I plan to do a couple of things my Dad didn't. Have a will and pass down my recipes.

Grandmother's recipe.
Buttermilk until wet.
1 cup of Self Rising Flour
Heeping tablespoon of Crisco Lard
That's all I use. When I roll them out I dip them in bacon drippings. Best Biscuits I've ever had.

My grandmother had a recipe that called for Mayo believe it or not. I'll have to ask her. And they are awesome.
