I bought a cabbage the other day, and I haven't come up with a good way to cook it. Anyone care to share a good recipe for what to do with it?

yep, cooked in chicken stock. Throw in some andouille or other smoked sausage if you have it laying around but it is great without it.

I like to caramelize the cabbage and onions in butter with browned andouille. Maybe add a touch of sugar to get more sweetness.

By the way, I once took this to a pot-luck lunch at work. At the time, my coworkers were predominately African American women. The dish was virtually untouched.

Later a friend pulled me aside to tell me that was considered "slave food" by most.

Cut it up and put it in a pot with onions, garlic, andouille, butter and a can or two of rotel. Cook it down for about 45 minutes covered over low to medium heat. Once of my favorite meals.

Fry in a cast iron skillet with bacon grease, red onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Crumble in bacon after fried.

Purple or green?

Quartered purple cabbage

Sautéed with garlic, pimentón,onion and pear slices caramelized, does the trick for the Dandy household..

I know, I know, it's "cheating". But it makes it taste so good.

I'm commenting so I can reference this thread next time I have cabbage.

I normally cook it down in bacon grease with onions and garlic. A while ago I roasted it with a dijon mustard mix. It was amazing. Here's the recipe I used. I didn't use the caraway seeds because I don't see myself cooking with it in any other dish.

Ingredients
1 (medium) head green cabbage, core removed and cut into 8 wedges
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Kosher or sea salt to taste
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together oil, Dijon, garlic, black pepper, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds. Brush all sides of cabbage wedges with the oil mixture and place on a large rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle cabbage with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds. Cover cabbage with foil and roast 45 minutes, remove foil and roast 10 additional minutes or until lightly golden and tender. Serve immediately.

It's neither, but you'd laugh and nod if I told you. I'm not gonna say where.

Boudin and cabbage casserole.
I modified ATK's lazy man cabbage casserole, used boudin instead of rice and cooked it in the oven instead of a slow cooker. Probably my favorite use of cabbage to date.
