I'd like to know this as well. I wasn't impressed at all with Maxwell's selection

Maxwell's Market is close and sells Prime meat...where ever you go you want prime aged beef.

The name is escaping me... but there is a market in the shopping center right out in front of the CCLA (on Highland... just past Perkins on the left coming from the interstate...)

Anyway, I have heard very good things about their steaks.

Oops, well there is always Redi Portions on choctaw and I hear good things about Whole Foods. Again, make sure you are getting Prime.

Whole foods is about double the price of fresh market for steaks

I'm not paying 22.00 a pound for a fricking ribeye

Last time I bought two prime tenderloins at Maxwell's...the butcher would not even tell me the price...he just kept saying "It's prime". It was sure good though.

That's because at Maxwell's (and Whole Foods), a filet is about $31.95/lb or more.

I know they aren't "prime," but Albertson's carries decent meat, you can have them cut it any way you like, and it's about 1/3 of the cost of the other guys. And if you know shite about grilling, you can make it taste fantastic without blowing your wad on the steak. If I want a $32/lb steak, I'll get someone else to cook it for me and bring it out to me on a sizzling hot plate.

Tramontes on Old Jefferson has aged prime steaks and at a decent price. Cheaper than Maxwells and Chris's

Be sure you ask for prime. They usually cut them fresh in the back.

The steaks in the case are only choice.

Pretty good fresh sasauge as well.

Avoid the hamburger while you are there.

I just dont care for them, Probably the biggest burger in BR at about 1-1/2" thick, but the few I have tried were still raw in the middle.

I love a good rare steak, however a raw burger is a differant story.

the plate lunchs are decent however

That is a feature, not a bug.

I've never shopped at this place, but I've heard that Mexican store over on Siegen next to Jim's Firearms has a pretty good meat selection. Not sure if that's true or not, but just a suggestion to maybe give it a shot.

For a couple of years I work for Associated Grocers (AG stores such as Hi Nabor, Calandro's, Ralph's, etc.) and they use the best slaughter house in the US: IBP (Iowa Beef Processors.) Dollar for dollar they beat any of the local grocery stores such as Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart, etc. And, if you go to Calandro's or Ralph's where they carry the prime, it's even better. Count on it...

I used to buy the sausage at Tramontes, but never again. I have never seen/eaten sausage with so much fat in it before in my life. When you cook it it shrinks in size by more than half its original size because of all the fat. I put a link in the microwave and was amazed at the fat and grease oozing out of it.

I happen to like the burgers there by the way.
