Velvet Cactus is nowhere near my favorite but for that area, the atmosphere is good. Good place for a group to get together.

Coyote Blues is the best restaurant in the city and just under Sal n Judy's in the state, IMO.

Velvet Cactus has awful food, though.

I don't really have any good selections as the northern part of the city and Metairie aren't really my stomping grounds. But don't do Velvet Cactus.

This place is more expensive / nicer than your average Tex-Mex joint but the food and drinks are damn solid. Canal Street Bistro

I haven't heard of those two restaurants. Will try them out soon .

Nola area is definitely lacking in the TexMex department. I usually just order fajitas though and I've never had any issues with my fajitas at Gato Negro, Carreta's, or Casa Garcia. I've only been to Superior twice and I can say their margs are better than their food. The places I mentioned fit the trashy TexMex chips/salsa/queso, frozen margs sort of night. Which I enjoy every now and then.

Certainly the most ambitious. Guillermo Peters is a damn good chef.

The steak at el gato negro was excellent. The chips and salsa were shite.

El Gato Negro is about the only thing I can recommend in NOLA. Went there earlier this year and thought it was really good.

Never get Mexican in nola though because we have really good Mexican in BR.
