Best Cutlery for the money

Looking for something like Wusthof between $200-300

Isn't that about what a wusthof set costs?

That's way too many knives for the price. Spend the same money on just three: a chef's knife (6" or 8", depending on your hand size), a medium utility knife (5-6"), and a serrated slicer if you slice lots of bread. If you don't slice bread, substitute a heavy cleaver (for hacking up chickens, etc) or a small paring knife (if you eat lots of fruit/veg).
I like the Wusthof "better" lines sold as individual knives; Global is my current favorite. But I have an ancient Henckels chef's knife that cost $100 more than a decade ago--it is still a great knife despite having its tip broken (I had the blade re-ground to put a point back on it).

Please show me what you would recommend. All I have right now is a crappy MSL block I got from Kmart and I bought a 12in chef's knife from a local kitchen store

also... look into some other options as well. i got my stuff from chefknivestogo.com. very informative info on the forum there and you can get some solid recs. its mostly japanese knives, but for $300 you could get a chef, petty and a santouko or whatever other style you'd like.
the steel is much better than what most german stuff is and most are handmade either totally or with at least the grinding etc..

Also, you want to hold any knife in your hand before you buy it. Sur La Table keeps some carrots, etc on hand and will let you test-chop with any knife before you buy. Hand size, how you grip, etc make a difference in the knife you prefer: so definitely hold & chop if possible before you buy.
Often, you can pick up a quality chef's knife plus paring/utility knife as a value-priced duo. Global two piece set: LINK
Wusthof 2 piece set: LINK
Forget the countertop storage block--they take up space. I like magnetic wall strips for knife storage. Esp a fan of The Knife Butler, it magnetically hangs right on the side of the fridge, a spot typically unused: LINK

I just want the best to get for the money that includes steak knives

Wusthof Classic.
That 2 piece set is a good place to start, for the money. I also use my utility knife a lot. I don't find the shears to be that great, and I don't use a bread knife often. If I were doing it over again, I would go with the 2 piece and a magnetic strip. Add a utility knife and steak knives and you're good to go for most things.

We got a set of Henckels for a wedding present 12 years ago, and I have no complaints.

i got one of those as a wedding gift. i considered writing the thank you note in blood as there was more than enough to go around after slicing an onion.

Keep your fingers rolled with the middle joint guiding the knife and your thumb tucked behind. Once you get a hang of it, you can start working on pace and you'll never cut yourself again.

it was a joke post. i have enough restaurant kitchen experience (and scars) to not cut myself anymore (i hope).

Wusthof classics set of 7 is around 300. But in order to get the set with steak knives, it's around 500.
Henkcel is also good but similar pricing to Wusthof. But you'll have to pay extra for the steak knives.

Great steak knives are vastly overrated. Buy great kitchen knives with the money you saved buying decent steak knives.
