What's the easiest or most forgiving cut of meat for a first time smoke? Have a webber kettle and lots of lump/charcoal and lots of time this weekend to give it a try.

Also, any other uses for an oil free turkey fryer besides turkeys?

Ribs are pretty cheap too and are hard to completely ruin

10-4. Seems like a butt would take a much longer time than a chicken right?

Something easy like a burger or hotdog. But really you're gonna be so hungry it doesn't matter. Just get a bunch of Cheetos and lil Debbie's.

I've thrown ribs, pork loins, and a ham in one. Been I while since I've used it.

For my first one I did a butt. Took way longer than I expected. 10+ hours. I wouldn't recommend that as a starter. I did a chicken cut in half this past weekend and it came out great in 3 hours.

Thanks pal. I'd brine and smoke a pork loin, a chicken or a slab or two of babybacks to get your feet wet. Those will be the easiest and least time consuming imo. Monitor fire temp and meat temp and there's nothing to it.

Watch the BBQ with Franklin you tube videos, follow them exactly and you'll be eating some good BBQ and impressing your freinds.

I guess I am in the rarity that I've had the most success with briskets since buying a smoker last year

That's what I'm thinking. A Chicken or two and maybe some ribs.

I'm not interested at all in 8-10 hours...

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll check out that YouTube link.

Talk to R2R. He's pretty good at smoking with the kettle.
I have the WSM, so it's a little different. But I started with Boston Butt.
If I were you, I'd go with half a chicken or something. Brine them birds too!
