Beef brisket price check

Local grocery had brisket on sale for 2.69lb so I grabbed some up. Then went to walmart where their regular price was 1.99lb :/ ( grabbed some more to cost average)
Seems like the price has really fallen lately. Anyone else noticing the same. I remember when it was 3+lb not long ago.

What grade? I've seen untrimmed at Rouses down to $2.65/lb for choice. I normally get prime @ Costco for $2.95/lb

Beef has gone down over the last 6 mos+ but as the other poster noted brisket prices vary significantly according to grade. I can usually find low-end brisket here (Katy, TX) for about $2.10/lb.

I bought a 13 lb whole, choice brisket at Leblancs in Zachary yesterday for 2.49/lb. Its on the smoker now. I stopped in at the Winn Dixie in Zachary last Friday to see what they had. They had 4 or 5 that were $7/lb. Those will sit for awhile I imagine .

I don't know enough about meats to know honestly.
Probably the lowest grade there is though

There are different grades and different cuts. Sounds like we're talking packer cut, low-end briskets.
My experience with these is that, it's a big piece of meat. If rubbed right (50:50 salt:pepper), smoked right (oak until about 200 degF internal), you will get some excellent brisket but there will also be parts that are meh.

Cheap stuff is all I've ever bought anyway.
Use my electric Ol Smokey and the recipe that came with it. Good enough for me.

There's nothing right about this.

Would you let this guy know that he's not doing it right.
See at about the 6:20 mark

I knew who you were referencing when you posted your rub and temps. I was mostly joking with my comment, but I like a little sweet and spice in my brisket rub and I definitely take it out before 200. Franklin and restaurants in general do that because cooking it to above well done is safer (both bacteria and customer preference), but at home there is no need assuming you don't just prefer it that way. I definitely like a good crisp bark and pink center.

Why? Pink with a smoke ring is my brisket heaven.

Brisket here in Minnesota at my local butcher shop is $5.99/lb. I can't imagine paying less than half that much.

I bought one prime at Costco Friday at $2.69. There were mixed $2.69 and $2.79. My pack date was 5/6.

Same here in Alabama. I wish I could get em for the $2.50/lb range. Now I can get pork butts anywhere from $1-$2/lb.

If it's pink then the collagen didn't get hot enough to break down
