sadly I have to agree with this. There are some spots that are pretty good but nothing great.

Go to west Alabama ice house and get some taco's instead.

Jackson Street BBQ that just opened downtown by Minute Main is supposed to be really good. Brian Caswell and one of the old pit masters from Gatlin's opened it.

My go-to is still Goode Co. - Brisket sandwich on jalapeno cheese bread with potato salad

Yep. It's been my biggest disappointment after moving here.

And if you want Killens, you better be there at 10:30 and be ready to wait outside for 30+ minutes.

He serves until he runs out of meat, and everyone left in line is SOL.

You just have to find that your go to spot and stick with it...or fire up your own smoker and get it done.

Gatlin's is closed for a while.

Killen's is the best BBQ in Houston, and one of the best in the state. Corkscrew, Blood Bros, Ray's, and Brooks are probably your next best bets.

Goode Company and Jackson's are just ok.

If anyone tells you Rudy's, tell them to frick themselves.

Killens has daily specials as well, yesterday was a chicken fried steak, today is a pork chop, tomorrow is chicken, friday is prime rib, saturday is burnt ends, sunday is fried chicken.

I'm enjoying Killen's pork chop special today as a matter of fact.

Not Houston but in Cypress there's a trailer set up in front of Ace Hardware at corner of FM 529 and Barker Cypress, excellent BBQ and once they run out of food they close

I've had the Akaushi burnt ends special there before. Un-fricking-believable. Here (from Killen's FB site), in all its glory:

Friend of mine told me about it a couple of years ago, it's legit and always consistent, I assume they smoke a specific amount each evening for the next day and when it's out its out..and the menu varies slightly day to day

Interesting. I might make the drive and check this out. Do they have bad lines? Any particular hours?

Website says they are open from 11:00am - Sell Out...
There's never really a huge line but keep in mind that it's basically a trailer that has a two picnic tables in from with a metal carport canopy..I guess if you need to use the restroom you'll have to go inside one of the stores in the strip mall...
