Anyone tried out the new Vietnamese place on Essen Lane? Ava Street Cafe.

It's in the old hamburger joint that was then a Mexican place for about five minutes.

Wondering if it is worth fighting the epic traffic mess on that roadway.

I went last week and was impressed. Appetizers are really good. Entrees are basically 3: Pho, Rice noodle dish and rice dish. I think they are working on expanding the selections.

I'll go back for sure

I thought it was good and worth the wait in traffic. There is nowhere else by campus to get a vermicelli bowl so I am a big fan and hope they do well. I went twice and it looked like the hospital and nearby businesses keep it busy for lunch.

If you get the vermicelli bowl, get the combo one with 3 meats. It was only a dollar more but it felt like a lot more food.

I havent gotten anything else but the rice dishes looked pretty tempting as they were bringing them out.

Only thing I would be worried about is that the place is pretty big for a vietnamese place in BR.

Went for the first time yesterday. Immediately noticed how good it smelled in there, which is always a good sign. I had the works pho, which was very good, if not great. They are a little skimpy on the accoutrements, but the standard bean sprouts, peppers, lime, and basil leaves are there. As I looked around the restaurant, everything on the tables looked good.

As long as the rent isn't too high, I appreciate the size of the restaurant. Even at peak lunch, I was able to get a table. The bar area looks decent as well if you need overflow. As far as the traffic, I never find it particularly bad at that point on Essen. I find getting to Zorba's has more gridlock.
