Marie, what kind of food are you looking for? There are tons of great options here. Do you have a particular area of town picked out?

P.S. Franklin BBQ is awesome, but if you are only in town for a short time, I definitely would NOT recommend it...it will eat up your entire morning and you may not even get food. Plenty of other solid choices.

No preference really. We're not picky eaters, just love good food. I imagine we'll be around the university area. We're catching a show at bass concert hall on Sunday.

We'll be there Friday through Monday as of now.

Thank you for the links.. Good info in there.

Also, the husband loves beer so any craft places for drinks would also be great to know.

Some of my favorites come from food trailers, actually. G'raj Mahal on Rainey does great Indian (BYOB and in the middle of a bunch of bars). East Side King (a Paul Qui joint, several locations but my favorite is at Liberty Bar, with the Grackle location as a close second). ESK is actually some of my favorite food ANYWHERE, trailer or not. If you're wanting to go fancy one night, Barley Swine is awesome. Super small so there's usually a wait, but if you bring some cash you can walk to the coolest dive bar ever, the Horseshoe Lounge. :)

Where are y'all staying? How far are you willing to drive?

Banger's on Rainey has 102 beers on tap. Good food, too, and a great beer garden, often with live music. There's a newish place called Craft Pride that (obviously) has a lot of craft beers. If you're looking for specialty cocktails at any point I would try Weather Up on the East Side...East Side Show Room if you're looking to spend a little more. Their mixologists are incredible.

Whip In LINK or Draughthouse LINK Whip In is a cool, funky atmosphere in a former convenience store on I-35 south austin. Draughthouse is a more staid and sometimes older crowd. I like both but would would choose Whip In.....Go to Curra's for one of the best mexican places.. LINK..It's just around the corner from Whip In.

Awesome thanks l boogie and zappas. Don't have a hotel yet, we're not sure of how this week will play out so we're taking our time with that one.

Keep us posted, there are a bunch of fun spots, it will be easier to suggest things if you have an idea of which part of town you will be staying in

All good recommendations. If I could add to it I love the Saturday morning farmers market in the park across from the W. some amazing food is served there and when I'm in town I spend Sat mornings there. I mean top notch pork, beef and breakfasts too.

I imagine we'll stay close to the university but really it'll be whatever deal we can find before we get on the road.

There's also a pretty good farmer's market right across from the White Horse (awesome little honky tonk/dive bar with whiskey on tap)...E. 6th and Comal. South Congress Cafe does great brunch and there are a bunch of cool shops and a fun little flea market there on the weekends.
