Austin food/bar recommendations?
Posted by flyAU on 3/22/16 at 7:32 pm00
I am staying at the Westin Downtown tonight and there certainly is no shortage of options.
I am in my mid 30's so figure many of these bars are probably only college age? I tend to go for more casual places where I can grab a seat at the bar and watch sports or listen to live music.
Any suggestions?

Go to Rainey Street. South Congress might be a little too hip(ster) for you.

Bangers on Rainey street.
Favorite spot in the city, but I do like fancy sausages, things fried and craft beer more than your average joe.

Love some Rainey street, but when I went it seemed like it was all bars. Food is good over there as well?

I am trying to "be good"
Craft beer is always good, to be clear.

so "get away from 6th street" is the common theme here.

Bangers as others have said. I also like Easy Tiger on 6th and Whip In on South I35 service road.

Go to Craft Pride on Rainey Street. Get good beer, and some amazing pizza. Great atmosphere and I've found that the people on Rainey Street are all great. Always end up conversing with the most random people.

G'Raj Mahal is on Rainey, too, and it's my favorite Indian in town. The "new" Lustre Pearl just opened (LP was the first bar on Rainey and was uprooted from its original location a few years back...it finally reopened across the street) and it's usually a lot of fun.
Just east of 35, there are some cool bars. The White Horse is a honky tonk with whiskey on tap and a delicious taco trailer in the back yard. I also like Stay Gold and Violet Crown. Some hipsters at those joints but not as many as you might think.
