When the Metairie store opens, I think it's going to be the tipping point where a grocery store in that area will have to go out of business. Starting with Whole Foods, if you go easy on Vets there will be 6 stores. Can't support that many and my bet is that The Fresh Market will be the loser.
I was thinking Breaux Mart.

Maybe. They just finished a big remodel and I think the fat city apartment community can probably keep them in business

Yeah, I only say that because I never see a lot of cars in their parking lot. But, your right about the immediate area supporting them.
It would seem to me a certain segment of the people living in those apartments go to the Latino grocery stores too.

Their produce is awful. Apples, bananas, oranges...you name it. It would be rotten after 1-2 days.

unexpected cheddar
triple ginger cookies
As others have said all of their coffees are good.

I haven't had their coffee other than the coldbrew concentrate, but that stuff is terrible, I wouldn't recommend it.
I find the produce to be good quality at the one here in Dallas.

There are a lot of good things at TJ but their Pizza's are awesome imo. At least the cheese one was

I really only go to TJ's for coffee, tofu, flowers, and a few snacks. I see some people load up in there and don't get it. A lot of the frozen stuff is pretty unhealthy. I don't find their meats all that good. Produce is good to terrible depending on the day. I'm also not a fan of the employees. It's like they pump prozac through the air.

Best pineapple juice anywhere.

so between Severn and Lake Ave, you'll have:
Breaux Mart
Whole Foods
Rouses
Trader Joes
Dorignacs
Fresh Market
Winn Dixie

Frozen meals in general aren't an ideal choice, but theirs tend to have less calories, sodium, and preservatives than the top brands in grocery stores. They're also pretty unique, which I think is what draws people. Their personal pizzas are 250 calories, which is almost 100 calories less than the Lean Cuisine one which advertises itself as a diet meal. TJs has shite produce and meat (except the ground chicken), but if you buy packaged things like hot dogs and salsa and cheese and bagged salad, it is a good place to go. It is definitely not a one stop shop though unless you only eat packaged foods at home.

I go there for the banana&vanilla ("Vanana") yogurt and Mochi.
Recently got turned onto Mochi... weirdest thing textural wise but I think it's the perfect after meal desert.

It's been awhile but we use to get the frozen New Zealand rack of lamb which was money. Not sure if they still carry that but if they do I'll be curious to see if it's better than what I get at Costco now.

Agree regarding TJs for certain specially items....I really don't think of it as a grocery store, but more as entertainment shopping. If you think TJs has low quality stuff, then you've never ever looked closely at most items in your average WalMart, WinnDixie, etc. The frozen TJs stuff is light years away from Dwight Yokum brand chicken fries (yes, it's a real thing sold in my Wallyworld), the plethora of Tyson mechanically separated meat sludge products, or the Banquet pot pies.

I've never been to a Trader Joe's. I look forward to checking out the Metairie location.
