Has anyone been to Apolline on Magazine? I bought a Living Social deal yesterday and was just wondering if it's any good.

I hve not. My sister has been twice and really liked it. I checked out the menu and it looks very promising.

You and the Brit gonna show for the big party at Finn's on Saturday?

I ate there maybe two months ago. It was pretty good, no problems at all.

I really hate that the original incarnation of Dominique's on Magazine is no more. That place was so damn good, one of the best meals I've ever eaten in New Orleans. Everything was spot on.

Gotcha. What time you gonna be there?

I know we're doing Bayou Boogaloo that day. Sort of a housewarming for the brit's new place, which is directly on Bayou St. John.

But...

He's a late sleeper and we're not getting started with the Boogaloo until later, so if you're gonna be there early, I'll stop in early for a couple of beers with ya.

I never got to eat at Dominique's...though it was forever on my "must try" list.

Not quite as good as the previous Dominiques on Magazine but still a real solid restaurant. Get one of their specialty cocktails, I believe most of the ingredients are grown in their herb garden out back.

Isn't it same chef or the same owner?
Just want a quaint date spot. Looked like it might fit the bill.

And their online scotch and whiskey list is weak.

I'm hoping that's just a sample of their offerings.

Dominique was the chef/part owner and his BIL was the part owner. They had a split and another chef took over. He did stay on as a consultant for a while.

It was easily my favorite dining experience in the past year. The service and food were both excellent! The person that I went with is from England and has lived in New Orleans about a year and a half and he said it was the best meal that he's had since he's been here.

Didn't he recently open another Dominiques on Mag?

Can't answer much about Apolline other than the bloody marys were good and the bartender was really nice. The brunch also looked good. Some friends live around the corner that I visited a few weeks ago. We just stopped in Apolline and had bloody marys while we waited for our table at Surreys.
