Started using it about a year ago. I substitute it for olive oil, in cooking, now. Wonderful taste for omelettes, sauteed vegetables, fish, etc. I get the Nutiva, from Amazon. It's pure, and flavorful. The refined is tasteless.

Yes , it has an authentic coconut aroma. I don't know about any other brands, except Lou-Ana, which is refined, and worthless.

I like it... It's nice not to get the olive oil flavor sometimes.

As a side note, I want to try cooking with ghee too.

I've been using it to cook eggs. And I've used it to cook chicken. I love it.

I read somewhere that it's the secret to movie theatre popcorn at home. Haven't tried it though. Not a fan of popcorn.

Years ago my family had popcorn wagons and we used coconut oil. Man, that was good popcorn from a big kettle.

Try grape seed oil...much higher smoke point. Makes excellent fries with a little duck fat.

I use it to sautee bok choi with a little garlic.

Works very well and imparts a nice smoothe flavor.

How is it in regards to cholesterol? Isn't coconut fairly high in that regard?

re: anyone use coconut oil?
It is, but you must use small amounts, very little chunks, as you would butter.

How is it compared to Olive Oil? When making popcorn at home I generally pop on the stove with olive oil, I would like to try popping with this stuff.

It isn't as strong of a taste, and it has a lower smoke point than even EVOO.

Cholesterol is an animal by-product. There is none in coconut oil.

Extra virgin coconut oil has a smoke point of 350 degrees. It was the original "Movie Theater Secret" - before the butter-flavored fiasco replaced it. It makes the best popcorn.

It has more saturated fat per serving than lard. This is the second time I've heard recently someone touting it as "healthy". I'm not so sure if it is or not.

It's what the movie theaters used to use. Then some public interest group started making claims that it was extremely unhealthy and got it banned in places across the country. Now, actual scientists have found that it is actually pretty healthy, but the damage has been done.
