I am thinking about buying an infrared smoker/roaster/grill for Christmas. I have never cooked with this type of equipment before, only charcoal, wood, and frying with oil. What is your opinion of using an infrared cooking device?

There's a learning curve with the heat but they're great, imo.

It's quick, easy, and fairly good for birds.

Also have a big easy but it Looks a little different than that, but I love mine cooks great Boston butts and turkey havnt done chicken yet. The top on my is stainless mesh lid/top I stress the top is "only for browning purposes" do not cook with the top on untill the very end to crisp it up a bit.. Learned that the hard way

Is it anything more than a propane powered oven?

Did a turkey for Thanksgiving and it was pretty spectacular. maybe 15 minutes prep time to inject and season. For 100 bucks, I highly recommend.

Same here. It came in the day before thanksgiving. Assembled and seasoned it according to the video on YouTube. Dry-brinded the 13lb turkey for 24hrs then made up a rub the next morning. I didn't watch the timer too close but I would say it took somewhere around a 2 hour cook time.

Pulled the turkey at 165 internal temp in the breast. It was really hard to tell that it wasn't deep fried. Skin was crispy, breasts were pretty moist. It was good but I also smoked a turkey too and it killed the "fried" bird on moisture and flavor.

Used it again today. Hung 12 chicken legs in it. Same result as the turkey. Good stuff. I'd say it's worth the money spent. I also heard they were going for 79 bucks at Stine's. Not sure if that sale is still on though. I ordered mine from Amazon.

I thought about the wifi one but I couldn't pass up the Big Easy smoker, roaster, & grill for half the price.
