Anyone here involved with intermittent fasting?

Admins -I figured this was the right board since it has to do with dieting, but if not move to the appropriate board please.
I've been doing it for about 3 weeks now and have lost about 10 lbs. I began with about 23% body fat and my goal is to get below 13% by summer. I'm combining it with a low-carb diet.
I'm currently doing a 16/8 fast, once I get closer to my goal I may start doing a 20/4 fast.
I thought I would be tired and grumpy with this program, but it's actually been the opposite for me. I feel awesome and and energetic everyday. The quick results have helped to keep me motivated. I can also tell that my testosterone has increased a good bit.
Anyone else doing IF?

I fast every night than I break fast with my first meal in the morning.

Done it before and worked well but it is pain in the arse until you get into a routine.

FWIW, I read somewhere that all diets are simply tricks to make you restrict your caloric intake.
If you burn 2000 calories a day, and eat 1500 calories a day, you're going to lose weight.
You can eat 1500 calories of cotton candy or 1500 calories of apples, it's the same deal. Granted, some diets do a better job at nutrition and making you feel full, but the end result is the same.
If intermittent fasting works for you, then kudos. You'd probably be just as successful eating throughout the day while eating the same amounts.

I eat at 11am and 6pm everyday, like clockwork, so I guess I have always done this (IF), without knowing. I also never eat breakfast.

My wife and I have done IF for about 5 years.
I'm a big proponent not for any kind of magical "fasted state" gains and all of that, but just because it's a great way for us to restrict calories. It really falls into my dietary habits. When I sit down to eat, I like to really eat. It cuts out all the crap "filler" meals and let's us focus on a single quality meal. It's also much easier for me to abstain totally from eating than it is for me to try to restrict quantities through small meals.

Leangains is a website full of knowledge. Sadly I don't think he's updated it in a very long time.
I do IF and have been doing it for about 2 years. I mainly do it because of my work schedule and it fits perfectly with it. But I really enjoy eating bigger meals so fitting my meals into an 8 hour window allows me to do so. Honestly, in the big picture, meal timing plays a very small part in fitness and body composition.

If you want to lose weight, stop snacking, and stop thinking you need three "full" meals per day. Unless you work in manual labor or work out a lot, you don't. If you sit on your arse at work all day, your calorie neutral intake is probably one full meal and one small meal per day.
I practically never eat breakfast, and sometimes if I have a particularly big lunch, will only eat that one meal that day. What I find most amusing is that people will incessantly whine about how I seem to "eat whatever I want" and still stay thin when they see what I ordered for lunch. When I tell them that I generally only eat one or two meals per day and never snack, they immediately tell me that that not eating more frequently during the day is bad for me

Yeah. I don't really tell people that I fast unless they're someone I know won't judge. People will constantly lecture you about how "unhealthy" it is to fast.

The biggest thing that helped me was using leangains or the rippedbody website to figure out my daily caloric intake then counting macros. IF was just an extra part that helped out.

Exactly. There is no need for special diets. Eat 1500 calories a day as a man and the pounds will fly off if you're overweight. Simple. If you are in a pinch and eat a Big Mac, that's about 500 calories. be mindful of that and eat a couple chicken breasts and salad for dinner that night. There is no magic, just restraint.

been telling people this for YEARS
BMR (basal metabolic rate) waaaay more important than BMI.
just remember however, that as you start to lose weight, your BMR goes down as well (since it takes fewer calories to maintain lower weight you burn less than you did when you were more overweight) so you may have to adjust your max daily calories.

Ive done some IF with great results. The energy spikes in the morning are through the roof as I can recall.
Man, that would be tough. I have/had to eat a pretty decent amount of calories (around 2600) to maintain my bodyweight and cramming that much into 4 hrs would have been a chore.
