I've read some scary stories about people having terrible reactions to them.

Discovered the hard way my son has a cashew allergy. That sucked.

Peanuts seems to be ok, luckily.

My 8 year old son has a level 5 score. He was diagnosed as a 15-month-old after i gave him a half eaten peanut butter cookie which he immediately spit it out then began vomiting profusely, shite and within 15 minutes (during which I was driving to the ER) was completely red, unrecognizable because of swelling, and the whites of his eyes were completely red. My wife who was an ER nurse at Lafayette general at the time couldn't be in the room, yeah its scary stuff but we have learned to check (double) check everything he eats and all vehicles and his school have an EpiPen. Hell you would be amazing at how many things are produced or manufactured in plants with peanuts

I don't, thank God. I never remember any kid I went to school with having an allergy either. I think it's pretty rare. Sucks for the kids who have it, though. Childhood sucks with food allergies.

My 7yr old daughter has a 4 for Peanuts and a 3 for Pistachios. Everything else is ok they say, but we stay away from all nuts just to be safe.

I do, but very minor. I have mostly outgrown it. The dust makes my nose itch and I have to sneeze. If I eat one, I usually can taste it and spit it out. That just makes my throat itch a bit and slightly swell. A benadryl will mostly take care of all of that.

strangely enough, I don't remember kids having peanut allergies when I was young, but there are a good number of them now...seems like it has become a lot more common...

Nobody understands how rough it is on peanut allergy people lol. I've had the same level allergy since about the same age, my parents found out by giving me a pbj sandwich around 18 months old. My throat closed up completely. I also have a significant allergy to tree nuts, as is common with peanut allergies.

From experience, I'll recommend you teach your son to look at the ingredients and play it safe on cookies and cakes and such, don't just do it yourself. If my parents hadn't taught me to do it myself, I would have probably gone to the ER or worse several times. As it is, I've only been that first time, so I'm very lucky

Another note here, this is for your son's sake in the future. When it says "may contain peanuts" or "manufactured on equipment that also processes peanuts", that's not the same as "contains peanuts". I've been eating anything that says "may contain" or "manufactured on same equipment" for years with no problems. That's obviously a choice for you to make as parents, but it's been safe for me, and it helped me feel a lot more normal as a teen and as an adult knowing I do have some options on things I can eat when it comes to ice cream, cake, cookies, snacks, etc

Not here. I loves me some peanuts.

It's the crunch in Pad Thai...
The creaminess in a satay dipping sauce...
The joy of whole roasted peanuts at an MLB game...

and then there's one of my favorite healthiest snacks, peanut butter slathered celery sticks...crunch...boom.

Recess peanut butter egg...om nom nom...

Everyone has their dietary constraints, and I certainly have mine, but I'm glad to say that it's not peanuts.
