How is it?

Thinking about going this route and looking for feedback.

I've also heard great things about the Aeroperess.

Does anyone have one of these?

I have both and use both. They make a great cup of coffee.
I prefer using the Chemex over the Aeropress for sake of ease and amount produced.
Buy both. They Aeropress is cheap and neither take up much space.

I also have both. Chemex is nice when you want to serve multiple cups at once, as my Chemex is way bigger than my french press pot. For one person drinking multiple cups, you'll need a tea cozy or similar, or the coffee cools quickly in the glass carafe.

We hardly ever use the aeropress...though if you have to spend more than a day or two without power, it is a damn fine thing to have. A good item if you routinely camp, too.

a proper pour over, with a chemex is the best coffee you can make.

Make sure you use a medium grind and watch a video on how to pour it. There is a process and ratio of coffee to water. But its the best.

Been meaning to order a Chemex. I use a French press when I really want a good cup of coffee. Is there really a noticeable difference between French press and a Chemex?

The french press will make a very oily cup of coffee. Tends to be a little creamer on the taste. The chemex filter will absorb the oils. The bloom from the chemex has a similar effect on the beans as aerator does on a glass of wine. Make it sharper.

I used to french press. Now, I prefer a Chemex.

On a related note, Reve coffee roasters has some of the best roasted single orgin coffee beans in the area.

Best is so subjective. I find chemex (and pour overs in general) to produce a thin, light bodied cup. Not my favorite....my all time favorite is the stovetop moka. So I like a "chewier" (some might say over extracted) cup of coffee.

The only thing more tiresome than coffee geeks are beer mavens. Drink what you like, I say.

Chemex is supposed to be tGOAT when done right. I have never known anyone that has one.

I just ordered it. I'll post reactions when first cup goes down.

Anyone have issues with their French press coffee being extremely weak when using more than the recommended grounds and letting it steep for the recommended time? Using a fresh, coarse grind but I have a hard time getting it right.

The bean itself is the only thing I feel can be the issue.

The only time I have this issue is when my grind is too coarse. Try adjusting your grind. What type of beans?

I went to a place here in Birmingham last summer that did the pour over method. I had heard of it before, but never had it. I've had French Press many times, and the pour over was slightly different. Hard to pick between the two. Stuff like that is more a special occasion type thing for me though. I brew with my Bunn at the house. I'm too groggy in the morning to deal with all of that for a cup of coffee. But in the middle of the day, or around dinner, I would bust something like that out.

Revelator started in Birmingham and uses Chemex. They also have a spot in New Orleans. I like their coffee.

Yeah, they're good. The place I went to was called Seeds. They're over in Homewood and it was my first experience with it. The two guys I was with, one of them suggested it. And then they order a pitcher of tea to split. It had me questioning the coffee if the guy that recommended it ordered tea, but it was really good.
