Good thing about Favor is that you can literally ask them to get you ANYTHING. Food from any restaurant, milk from HEB, condoms...whatever.

Yeah, I was excited when I read about this app too. I looked up the fees on their site and read where they said that was free.

I went to put in an order (I'm in NOLA) and I see they hit me with a $6 delivery fee before any tip.

SO a $23 order turns into a $38 in no time (see screenshot). It's a shame I had high hopes but I wish they would just say they charge you from the get go. I got my hopes up.

So the delivery is not free and does not cost 4.99 but $6. Why is this confusing?

I've used it a few times in the LC area, and it works. Yes you have to pay a fee, but it's worth it every now and then.

Delivery fee was still $5 in Lake Charles last week. I didn't know it varied by city. They're a food delivery company so I don't think that fee should surprising. The tip on the app goes to the restaurant and I never leave that at 20% for a to go order. Set it to where the restaurant gets a couple of dollars for their trouble and tip the delivery driver. Pizza places charge like $3 for delivery. With waitr the driver has to go to any random restaurant you pick, get your food, then bring it to you.

I agree that it's not surprising and yes, it is worth it sometimes. And yes, 20% for a delivery guy who doesn't wait on you like in a restaurant is probably too much. So the cost might be a bit less.

All I am trying to figure out is why they claim it's free when it actually costs, that's all. It's just annoying. I'll use it in a pinch. It just not the Holy Grail as I originally thought (because I read it on their site).

You probably read that the app is free, which it is. But actually using the service is not free

yeah, that is maybe what they meant but they sure make it seem like there is no fee; a bit deceptive on purpose I think. no big deal and there are def. more important things in the world. I just had my heart broken this evening cause I was looking forward to some wings and I wanted to sock it to 'em a bit. That's it, movin' on now.

Somebody is getting screwed here between the restaurant, Waitr, or the delivery guy, possibly all 3.
You didn't mention the 4th, which is the person who still boxes/bags up the order at the restaurant. Those hostesses, waiters, or owners (owners of smaller restaurants like Chinese take out) are still taking the time to do the same work, but the tips that they used to make when people picked up their food is now completely and absolutely a thing of the past.

How was it? FAQ's say it's free. If so, talk about clutch. I may try it tonight

My wife has been using the shite out of it.

I think they charge like $5 for delivery and you can pay a tip when you order. When the driver delivers, everything is paid for so no hassle

Edit: old arse fricking thread

Your $23 subtotal at any restaurant always gets tax added on to it. You would also tip too, so the $15 difference isn't a WAITR ripoff. I don't see the logic in your argument, but then again, I haven't seen your other two posts. For six dollars, you virtually don't have to lift a finger (or at least that's all you do with the app) and you get the food dropped off at your doorstep while you're still in your pajamas. Sounds like a deal to me. Sorry your hopes were dashed. I'm not sure what you want for six bucks.

I do think it's weird that there tip is calculated after adding in tax and fee. most people in the restaurant would probably tip $5 on the $23 pre-tax bill and post tax total would be $30.51. Using the service effectively added not $6 but $7.30 and that's pretty shady. This added 24% on top. Pay $37 to have delivered or pay $25 + takeout tip and pick it up yourself? Overall, not earth shattering and it's certainly worth it for many people, myself included, but I can see where on a small order the service costs might be a turn off for many others.

Did you really just bump a 9 month old thread to whine about $6?

Look, I realize that $6 isn't that big of a deal. and yes, it's often worth $6 to be able to order and have delivered while in your pajamas. You asked what do I expect for $6? I do think that's reasonable for $6.

I also have no "argument" here either. My only point is that they (Waitr)say (or at least imply) that it's free and I got mildly annoyed when there was a fee "to cover the administrative costs of our delivery network."

I am not saying that these costs are excessive, or that they are too costly for the service. My only remark is that it's not free as advertised and I wish that was stated on the front page or pre-order instead of buried on the checkout page. I'm just not a fan of sales practices (no matter how small) where you go into the deal and they add the fees on the end. I will probably use he service anyway. I'm not petty, I just found this thread when looking for a new delivery app so I input my $.02.

I live in NOLA so I just went with a different delivery restaurant last night but I realize that not all communities and neighborhoods have very many options besides Domino's.

And yes, the restaurant staff and delivery drivers all deserve a tip for the work that they do. and Waitr probably is trying to help the staff out by boosting the drivers' tip by calculating the total amount AFTER they add in they delivery fee.

I just wishing there was more transparency but at the end of the day, I everyone deserves to get paid for the work they do (drivers and restaurants); the developers deserve to make money off of their app. $6 is not too much to ask for a delivery.... again, I have no argument. just a plea for transparency. It's not a big deal. this was all more important when I had my computer open last night and this forum up from a search so I figured it'd reply.
...and today, I am just procrastinating at work... LOL.

I used Waitr for the first time last night.
There was a $5.00 delivery fee. Totally worth it.

However, my question is about the gratuity. Does that go towards the driver or the restaurant? I left a $5.60 tip thinking it was for the driver.

The fee goes to the business. They have to make a profit somehow if they're paying drivers a small wage (which I believe they are?). The tip goes to the driver.

I used Waitr to order lunch just now and asked the driver, any tip left through the app goes to the drivers.
