Pork loin or pork butt/shoulder? typically for a pork loin my first thought is always to throw it in the oven and cut it into medallions, the crock pot gets used for pulled pork.

i've never thought about cooking a loin in a slow cooker ... it would be drier than a dog bone ...

Agree all the way.....hot n fast for loin, it's not suited for a slow cooker.

I thought the same thing, but I did a loin in the slow cooker about a week ago, and it actually came out great. Wasn't dry at all. Just seasoned the outside, and put it in there fat side up with about 2 inches of water. Cooked on high for about 4 hours.

Pulled apart with ease, but wasn't nearly mush like a Boston butt can get. It retained solid strands of meat, but it was tender as you could imagine. It was basically the same texture as a picnic ham but without the bone and way less fat.

Served it on Hawaiian rolls with bbq sauce. Kids destroyed it. I'll probably use loins for now on as my crock pot pulled pork.

no offense but if your boston butt is ending up like mush and not solid strands of meat then you're cooking it too long and not monitoring it enough

I agree ... and while it doesn't happen to ME, it "can" happen (as in might/maybe) when using a crock pot (which is what he asked for).

He's not smoking it. A butt in a crock pot sits in liquid(mostly from the fat rendering out), whereas on a smoker, it drips off.

"Monitoring" a crock pot defeats the purpose of using a crock pot.
