Only person I've seen do it is my mom and she got the idea from her grandparents.

Still do. Best warm with cold milk and throw in some blueberries.

My grandfather had this for supper every night. He didn't believe in a heavy evening meal. He had it with sweet milk and my other grandfather had his with buttermilk (but not every night). The sweet milk grandfather was from south Louisiana. The buttermilk grandfather was from east Texas.

Same with mine. They were farmers and had always a big meal at noon, nap a bit through the heat of the day then go back out. Cornbread was made everyday and he had the leftover with milk every evening. They didn't waste much.

I remember my grandfather doing this as well. Sometimes I get a craving for it.

Yes this was very common in my household.

We always seem to have black eyed peas and cornbread and then milk and cornbread late in the evening sometimes before bedtime....

My greatgrandfather ate his late at night with buttermilk. He'd crush up a piece of cornbread in a glass, then pour buttermilk over it and pretty much drink it. He'd scoop out the big chunks and eat them with a spoon, but once it was all mush he'd just turn it up and drink it all.
