Any Southern California residents want to help me plan a trip?

Really just looking to fill 2 days of time in the greater Los Angeles area in a couple of weeks
A lot of the really high profile places in the area you have to book months in advance so those are pretty much out
Looking for casual for breakfast/lunch and probably nothing too upscale for dinner because I don't feel like packing nice clothes.
I'm not really limited on areas just yet as I haven't booked hotel reservations. Just booked the flight and rental car thus far.

I hear San Bernardino is really nice this time of year?

Would you have liked it if I made a similar joke about Laf after the theater shooting?
Nah, probably not.

I wouldn't have cared. So have at it several months late.

I actually like Lafayette. I just don't see the point in your stupid comment on the Food and Drink Board of all places.

My favorite city in Orange County is Laguna Beach. Go to Montage and walk the grounds it is open to the public. Las Brisas (Mexican) is a 7 for the food but a 10 for the location.

I see it's next to the Laguna Art Museum. Worth a visit?

I'm not sure what that's like this time of year. It's awesome in the summer with Sawdust Festival and Pageant of the Masters.

There's so many places in the "greater Los Angeles area" that I don't even know where to begin. So I'll start with a few suggestions while I gather my thoughts.
1. If you're looking for a good burger, and you like good beer, go to Father's Office. They have 2 locations: in Culver City and Santa Monica. The Office Burger is consistently on every top burger list, and their beer selection is phenomenal. Great place to hang out.
2. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach are 2 of my favorite places to hang out. Both are relatively small beach towns, unlike Santa Monica. I find Hermosa to be a bit of a younger crowd with several bars and some restaurants if you're looking to roam the beach, eat and drink. Manhattan is a slightly more upscale version of Hermosa, with a slightly older crowd. Both beaches are great. I'd recommend checking both those places out just to explore. There are a lot of restaurant options at both so there's plenty to choose from.
I'll keep thinking and come back to this thread with some more suggestions.

Thanks
I spent some time in those areas when I worked there in 2008. Spent about 9 months right on the border of Torrance and Redondo Beach. I plan on visiting with one of my old friends in the Southbay that Friday, going to a concert at the Staples center Sat night, just trying to fill out Wed and Thurs since she'll be working during the week.

My only experience with Manhattan Beach has been at Rock n Fish. Busy place at night, and it is near the pier.
Much of what I know is down in Orange County, which can be 40 minutes or 2 hours away depending on the traffic and location. Newport Beach and Laguna Beach have some nice restaurants on or near the water. If you like asian cuisine, I would recommend finding a good Viet place either in LA or Orange County.

what did you have in mind? how long are you staying?
my company is based in LA and i go there 5-6 times a year for the past 4 years. ive brought my wife out for a few long weekends and we've pretty much hit it all.
you need to split it up into segments or sections of LA.
for instance, when my wife came out for the first time, we did a 3 day weekend and on friday did Orange County. stayed on the beach in Huntington Beach(very cool area), they have a great boardwalk and downtown. eat breakfast at the sugar shack FYI.
then we drove around Newport, Laguna, etc. the next day we drove up to LA and hollywood and did the touristy stuff. stayed on hollywood Blvd and got all dressed up and hit the nightlife.
sunday we drove out to the beach in LA and did Venice and Santa Monica pier. it was awesome
LA gets a bad rap, but i personally love the vibe. so much to do, just dont be overwhelmed by the traffic. I personally prefer the OC. its beautiful and has some great restaurants.
a few of my favorite spots in and around LA
Tin Roof Bistro- Manhattan Beach- craft beer and kickass food
Katana Sushi- trendy as shite(you always see it on TMZ), but damn is it good. on sunset strip
the original farmers market- LA- kickass place, TONS of food places

Trying to keep an open mind but need to make a decision on where I'm staying soon. I'll just be staying 2 days at a place of my choice then Friday in the Southbay, then Saturday downtown for a concert at the staples center. I'l be leaving early Sunday afternoon.

Went there a few years back and I agree it's pretty incredible
