New England went out and gave him a 2 year 6.4mil contract and had to give up a 5th round tender to Buffalo.

Blounts stats last year:
299 carries, 1161 yards, 3.9ypc, 18 tds. 226 points (7th back in standard leagues)

I think its realistic that Gillislee could have a better ypc, 18 touchdowns is a reach though. Quick projection:

290 carries 1218 yards, 4.2 ypc, 10 tds, 181.8 points. This would have had him as the 12th ranked rb in standard.

Is he being undervalued?

For most teams, considering what they gave up to get him and what they are paying him, you would imagine that he would get a consistent amount of work.

But this is New England. I will never trust a NE RB, and I don't draft one unless the value is just outstanding. Too frustrating and inconsistent. Maybe consider someone like Burkhead in the 15th round.

He's so mysterious to me. On the one hand I think he's much more talented than Blount and could easily match or surpass Blount's numbers. But on the other hand, he's splitting carries with Burkhead, Dion Lewis, Bolden, and James White. I think Gilly will easily get the most touches out of all of them, but that's still a very crowded backfield. And then you never know when Belicheck is going to have some gameplan that features somebody else on a week to week basis. And then they added Cooks and Dwayne Allen to a receiving corps that already has Edelman, Gronk, Amendola, Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell. That's a ton of mouths to feed, even for a high powered offense

Average Blounts 2015 and 2016 and that's around where MG will end up imo

LG had 11 endzone cracks from the 1 last year and game script called for him to run a lot since NE was up early and often

Don't think MG sniffs 290 carries but I could be wrong

He's the best back they've had since Corey Dillon. He has hamstring issues at the moment but if he can overcome it he'll be top 10 RB

I think he'll end up being a RB1 (top 12)

He's talented, no doubt about that. As people have said, it's frustrating owning a NE RB because they get game scripted out so often.
Gillislee is a much better pass catcher than Blount, so he will do more damage there. However, there's no way he gets near 18 TDs, he'll probably be more in the 7-10 range.

I expect him to be something like the RB15-20, so a decent RB2, but he does have RB1 upside. Now, is he being undervalued? I think so. He's being drafted as the 29th RB and going at about 80th overall (mid 6th round for 12 team league, early 8th/late 7th for 10 team). Guys like Eddie Lacy, Adrian Peterson, and Blount himself are going ahead of him - and I'd rather Gillislee over those 3.

He's probably worth a 5th round pick, so if you can get him in the late 6th or 7th you're getting great value IMO.

I would like him more if Burkhead wasn't there and also getting $3.5M. I think Burkhead siphons off a lot of those Blount carries. I think Gillislee gets the short yardage work, but Burkhead is not getting $3.5M from the Pats to just fill the special teams Boldin role.

I actually don't think the contract will factor in much with the Patriots. They are all about just finding what's beating a team and jamming that down their throat. If it's Gillislee, they'll feed the beast all day, they don't care who else does/doesn't touch the ball. The downside is that if something else is working one day, he'll get like 4 carries.

Look what they gave Chris hogan last year. He had 58 targets all year and would have been 6th on the team had Gronk and Dion not gotten hurt

Burkhead is a good versatile player who Bellichik loved and sought out. I am not saying Burkhead is going to get 200 carries, but he is not going to be relegated to the Boldin role.
