The main advantage is for newbies getting to see the auction style of drafting. Its easier to plan a strategy once seeing the other conference draft. There are a few smaller advantages I see also.

Strategy definitely goes out the window. I had a strategy my first two seasons and it all changed after I won my first bid

so you want the best teams over the span of 12 or 13 weeks to get $125 and then give $250 and $125 to the 3rd and 4th place winners of the tournament

And I dont even think the highest points should be rewarded, rather the teams with the best two records in each conference
You can be a high scorer, but winning consistently in this league is more impressive

Yea, I think that would fit better since this top/bottom vs h2h.
But i see it as the best team all season being rewarded with the $125 in their league/conference and that 2nd place finisher of their league/conference getting $125 and the chance on doubling that to $250 for winning vs an extra opponent.
eta:1st place of their league conference gets $625 with the chance of winning up to $1600 for beating an extra opponent... the other 1st place of their league/conference
