As for saves, I dont want to pay for them. Im content with grabbing the high K setup guys at the end of the draft, and doing work through waivers to grab saves throughout the season. They are always there, and arent as valuable in a H2H league IMO unless you got the stud guys like Chapman and Kimbrel
this wrong.

I have my first ever H2H Roto draft coming up (8 teams; auction; 14 hitters; 10 pitchers) and can't decide between the following options:

A) Drafting a balanced roster
B) The Sweeny Plan
C) The Labadini Plan

Thoughts? Leaning towards option C..

In H2H points a reliever is worth nothing if he is not getting saves. I routinely rake in H2H points leagues by grabbing 6+ closer's and going after durable starters.

H2H, but with 5X5 categories not points.

You get a few setup guys each pitching 3-4 shutout innings a week striking out 10+ per 9 IP, and that's worth more than some of the shite closers out there getting 1 save with low K totals and mixing in ERs here and there

Idk. Giving him a tried and true strategy.

You can win both ways obviously.

But in a smaller league closers are so easy to come by as the year rolls on. Don't see the need to pay a premium

say you have 3 relief spots, and you get 9 innings 2 ER 16'ks from your 3 relievers in a week, is that worthless to you?

pay for 1 closer if you must, i always think it is good to have one. But the position is too fluid to load up with closers with mid round picks.

Sure

1 in 3 8th inning guys will fall into a closer role

You already got a handful of guys on shaky ground

A setup guy that pitches 4 innings a week with 4 ks and a whip of 1.00 gets you 12 points. And that is if he doesn't get roughed up, which he will because if he didn't he would be the closer. A low range closer will average 2 save opportunities a week and even if he only converts at 75% with a k per inning and a whip of 1.75 he will gain 12 points. And there are a lot more bad closer's than great setup men. This is also assuming that your setup men will be as good as described which is unlikely.

In H2H points if a reliever isn't closing he will not be getting you enough points to justify being on your roster.

If you could get that from setup men, it would be decent. That would be 21 points the way I play. But you aren't going to get that out of 8th inning guys when 1 dominate closer will get you 3 innings 1 ER 1.00 whip 5 k's and 3 saves, or 19 points.

Plus the difference in positional players in the middle rounds falling a round or two is little to none.

Smaller leagues also don't have near the value on SS as bigger leagues. The size of your league will greatly dictate how you draft.
