The younger one is not much of a prospect and the older one would probably be rosterable. Not worth waiting.

idk about that. If he cant sign til october, that's fine and understandable. But I would think some teams would be on him, if not in the first than definitely the 2nd when the talent thins out.

Scouts compared him to a young Ryan Zimmerman

He's only 22

Age 21 season in Cuban National Series.

207 plate appearances
37 R (13th)
10 HR (3rd)
42 RBI (5th)
332/395/565 (4th in SLG, 9th in OPS)

By comparison, Hector Olivera's age 21 season in the CNS

409 plate appearances
72 runs
6 HR
32 RBI
315/370/412

So you are looking at 200+ PAs on Olivera's side, too

Olivera is 30 y/o and was among the candidates for Papz's top 10 in this year's draft fwiw.

The elder Gurriel

quote:

Last April, Baseball America's Ben Badler ranked Yulieski as the top player in Cuba, saying he "would have similar value to Hanley Ramirez and David Wright in terms of age and offensive performance." Hanley and Wright had down and injury interrupted seasons in 2015, but Badler clearly meant that as a big time compliment last year.

Yulieski will be considered a true free agent able to sign a contract of any size. Hector Olivera signed with the Dodgers at age 30 last season, receiving a six-year contract worth $62.5 million. Olivera came with a long injury history and Gourriel is simply a better player, so he and his agent figure to ask for a larger deal.

And I think the younger one has to wait until October to sign if I read correctly.

I don't think the older is signed by OD either FWIW.

I read they won't be eligible to sign until July at the earliest.

It's pretty widely agreed that it will be some time until they both sign. The younger one can wait til he's 23 later this year to be a FA. The older one has to clear paperwork.

FWIW Badler thinks 7 months.

Is the league on hold from making moves during the draft or anything? If someone makes some drops from their roster in order to make their pick, is the person they dropped fair game to pick up or do we have to wait for some reason? Also can we continue to drop/add other players while the draft is going on?

Edit: also after pick 2-20 is completed - how long does the league need to wait until we can start adding draft eligible prospects that went undrafted?

anyone dropped goes to waivers. I dont see why anything should be locked. If you can drop people mid draft, you should be able to pick people up too.

no

that player needs to go through waivers once the draft is complete.

now that's a good question. Moratorium on all moves except the draft would be my preference. But I ain't picky.

Players dropped for the purpose of making draft picks are not available until after the draft and will have to go through waivers.

there is and he's the real deal, but his NBP team might not post him for another 3 years. I hope sooner because I think he's 27.

LE has a point. Waivers are waivers. It really doesn't matter when it's done. If someone wants to risk their slot to pickup someone before seen everyone that might be available, that's on them.

I say let waivers go as usual. It's no advantage to any team from what I can see.

Does it matter? I have a feeling you'll have a problem with it.
