Are we expecting DJ Foster to supplant James White this season?

We all know predicting Patriots RB usage is a headache and up until very recently I've been convinced that James White could provide the same value Lewis did last year and sustain it for the entire season. The more I'm looking at game film and stats, I can't help but feel like Foster will emerge and be the back to own. Pats just always seem to find that UDFA diamond in the rough and this guy could really be it.

White played in the first 3 preseason games and didn't do much. Foster played in the 3rd and 4th and shined in both. I know the 4th game he was playing against backups but the guy had 9 catches for 110 yards. These guys are still professional athletes regardless of first-team, second-team, etc.

What do you guys think? Gaffney getting cut only solidifies his position even further. Pats will enter the season with White, Foster, Blount, and Bolden. Lewis on PUP and they could possibly promote Sankey from practice squad but I highly doubt he'll be a factor as at all.

Pats RBs are kind of like saints WRs, it's usually a good idea to stay away from them if possible.

However, I think that Blount will shine until Brady is back, but no telling what Bellichek is gonna do

We don't even know if garrapolo will throw to the pass catching backs. Those guys could be irrelevant until Brady comes back

My eye is on DJ week 1. I'm not ready to pull the trigger just yet. Plus I think until Brady returns his ceiling is limited.

I think I'm going to stash him just in case. I don't mind burning a roster spot just to wait and see.

I tend to see it this way as well. In my 12 team ppr leagues he went undrafted in all of them... I think he's a legit flex play and definitely worth rostering. He's in my waiver wire bid que this week

yeah that actually isn't true at all. The receiving back in this offense has been a fantasy relevant position for a while.

Jimmy seemed to check down to his backs a good bit in the preseason. I'm not starting white in week one until I see it in a real game but worth monitoring.

James White is the guy for now. He had a real solid camp

I like DJ foster a lot but he's got some growing to do, as big as that last preseason game was, he fumbled because he was being careless with the ball, that's usually doesn't bode well with Belicheck. Plus he wasn't asked to pass protect very often in that game, something that the 3rd down back is going to have to do in that offense this year

White would need to get hurt or fall flat on his face for Foster to have a chance imo

i feel like they always seem to get injured or just get passed up by other backs in the same system, but yea if a solid Dion Lewis type player stays healthy i agree he can be relevant
