On full display last night and today.

Eliminating it or changing it significantly would be a mistake.

I wonder how genius it would be if the results were reversed

Impossible.

Dems have the Coasts...forever and ever and ever.

You can't lose popular election owning the Coasts.

My opinion would be no different had Hillary won.

Among other things it keeps the large population centers from dictating every Presidential election.

The EC should be broken down to congressional districts for all states like Maine...

For me it would be the same. Around 10pm last night I was thinking this might be the reverse of Bush/Gore and would have been perfectly fine accepting that.

Maybe congressional district would be too uneven, but it absolutely needs to be broken down.

While I don't ever want a purely popular vote to decide the election, I do see merit in the way Nebraska and Maine do it. Awarding the "House" votes by congressional district is probably a more fair way of distributing the votes. While I was happy the way 2000 worked out, Bush getting 29/537 EC votes for Florida when he only won by 537 votes is pretty crazy.

Fun fact - if the EC was proportional rather than winner-take-all, Romney would have won in 2012

Want an explanation? With the EC, then the only real states that matter are California, New York, and Illinois.

I would like to see the number of electoral votes changed to reflect the number of registered voters. California gets 55 electoral votes. Numbers I saw showed only about 8 million people voted. New York gets 29. Numbers show about 7 million votes cast in that state. So a vote in California is worth more than a vote in New York.

And votes in small states are worth more than Cali.

You are seeing the beauty

If it were district based, then 49% of the people who live in California would actually have a vote.

The electoral college is in place to prevent one party from taking an insurmountable lead, which would lead to decade after decade of one party.

So the beauty is that the EC favors certain voters over others?

Isn't that, like, rigged?

Number of congressional districts and electors should be based on voting age population. Children don't pay taxes and don't vote.
