Which way are fellow Georgians voting with this? Big "No" here.

Strange circumstance that a republican governor is pushing for more government, and the democrat mayor is wanting to keep government out of schools.

I voted yes, and as I mentioned in another GA thread, here's why:

quote:

I voted for Amendment 1. If the local school districts were going to pull out solutions to fix the chronically failing schools, they would have done so by now. If you look at the opposition to the School Takeover Amendment, you'll see the usual suspects from the left: NAACP, teachers' unions, & school boards. If Shanquita Jackson-Jefferson (fictional but viable school board member name) had the answers, then it's her duty as an elected official to do everything in her power to pull the trigger on legitimate solutions to help those schools and teachers who can't get out of their own way and actually teach children.

The teachers' union doesn't want the Opportunity School District to be able to fire teachers who aren't doing their jobs. I don't find that prospect unreasonable. If I don't do my job, I'm underemployed. Why should teachers be any different? ETA: MAGA

Voted yes. I believe in charter schools in general and parental choice in particular. Local control might be great in most circumstances, but not all, for example Clayton County.

It's a tough one. It would likely help some of the pathetic schools where it's a fricking shame nobody in the community and local government/school boards seem to give a shite and are pissing away money. It's very tempting to try and get someone to hold those schools and school boards more accountable with what they are doing with taxpayer's money.

The state has not offered a viable solution as to how to fix failing schools, so I voted no. They are also in charge of the most corrupt system in the education system (GNETS) and are being sued by the US DOJ.

Exactly, what are they going to do? Turn out functionally retarded kids who can't read? If they're failing chronically, then it's systemic failure. It's just like Hillary. If she had the answers years ago, why didn't she help solve the problems?

It's the only solution to wresting temporary control from inept and corrupt local bodies who rob school districts blind and create perpetually failing schools.

Only a teacher's union and corrupt local officials would oppose this.

Voted yes, and my wife is a teacher. I think it's a good opportunity for failing schools.

More important is that I voted MAGA!!!
