Herbstreit.....Ohio State Has a Huge Chip on Their Shoulder

Herbstreit on Finebaum says he has been to several Ohio State practices and the players have a HUGE chip on their shoulder about hearing about their lack of speed, being an underdog, etc. It's the same chip West Virginia had hearing they didn't have a chance against Oklahoma.

He said they talk about speed but Jackson and Pittman do not have the 4.5 speed that Florida's DE's had last year. He said as to lack of speed, Ohio State is second only to Miami with players in the NFL and they don't take slow guys.

Ohio State likes the vertical passing game, complimented by the running of Wells. Herbstreit said LSU likes to cover one on one and OS likes their chances with two big, physical WR's down field.

Herbstreit said if we see the LSU of early in the season he thinks LSU would win. But he said 7 of the last 9 championships have been in favor of the underdog beause of that motivation factor and that chip on the shoulder attitude.

HOW are they the underdog really? all the experts predict they will win and they are the #1 team... Only Vegas really sides with LSU. Sure technically an underdog on the score card but hardly.

Notre Dame said the same thing last year.

I think LSU will have a chip on their shoulder too with the media fawning all over Georgia and USC.

this may be true, but this is where the game being in New Orleans cancels out any of that 'chip on the shoulder' crap. the crowd will be behind the Tigers and it will make a difference.

and last i checked, LSU was ranked behind OSU. how is OSU an underdog....

They only difference is that no one thought ND was any good last year, or the year before, or pretty much since 1993...

Does anybody think Herbstreit is even slightly objective when it comes to Ohio State? ESPN pays him, but OSU Sports Information Director is his job description this week.

What do you expect from Herbstreit. He is a former Buckeye and is just hoping that they have a chip on their shoulder.

That's not true Granny Lou thought they could beat LSU by multiple touchdowns and his word is gospel.

re: Herbstreit.....Ohio State Has a Huge Chip on Their Shoulder

I've seen every LSU game this season, and I've seen more than half of Ohio State's games. I just don't see that Ohio State has been particularly tested against an elite team. Referring to my computer rankings, the best team that the Buckeyes have beaten is #23 Penn State. They played one team ranked higher (Illinois) and lost at home.

LSU has played and beaten four teams (#6 Virginia Tech, #13 Tennessee, #17 Florida, and #21 Auburn) who are all better than anyone OSU has beaten.

team - winning % - opponents' winning % - opponents' opponents' winning % - quality wins
LSU - .846 - .535 - .546 - VT
OSU - .909 - .478 - .532 - none

LSU is stronger, faster, and just better. I'd be surprised if LSU doesn't win by at least 14.

The "underdog" role Herbie and others speak of, is rooted in being the #2 ranked team when playing #1, and not necessarily in being the game's pointspread favorite..

If anything, there are strong bowl betting trends, that support lesser ranked teams winning and covering, when installed as the game's betting chalk versus higher ranked foes.

I think last years loss helps OSU.
Too many people are buying in to the fact that Fla destroyed OSU last year, so therefore LSU will do the same.
I don't agree with that.
Fla just happened to play a great game(they were the prohibited underdog with no shot in many peoples eyes). OSU happened to play a piss poor game.

This year is this year. I think this will be a very tough, hard fought game (like most LSU games this year) that will come down to making plays late in the game. That should be to LSU's advantage since they had so many close, tough games this year.

Because everyone who studies college football knows that LSU is most talented team in America 2nd maybe to the Trojans...

OSU is in a rebuilding year (supposedly)...heck they were ranked like 12 or 13 preseason...LSU has been near the top spot all year..

I am concerned the way LSU has not played to it potential most of the year...I hope it is mainly because of injuries that affected this average play..

If LSU plays like they did early on,they will win...If they play like they did the last 3 game of the regular season, they will probably lose regardless of OSU's play...
