we did. 6 year old stafforshire (sp?). We gave him to friends of ours when wife got pregnant with our last child. He never gave us a reason not to trust him and we miss him a lot but we weren't taking a chance.

At his new home 4 years ago.

Not watching that but hopefully they charge dog owners and parents with attempted murder

re: 6 year old girl in coma, will never speak again, due to pit bulls

I have known probably 20 pits that were all perfect dogs, only one that was fricked up. Cur dogs normally chill, but are extremely protective of their owners.

In all of my 30 years, I haven't ever met a "nice" rottweiler that I truly trusted, and have had 3 try to bite me. Only other dogs have bitten or attempted to bite me were a chow and countless small dogs. Unfortunately owners of small dogs think it is cute. Unfortunately for them, they don't think it is cute when I punt their small dogs across the room for biting me, and I'm the one who ends up in trouble for their dog biting me.

The foreign breeds are just there for shock value. Such a small population of them in the US, it is negligible

Pit Bulls all need to be put down like the varmint they are. The breed needs to be eradicated.

I cannot understand why people continue to own and defend this breed. And I dawn sure don't get why they let their kids around them. My dad had a pit that ripped my face open to my jaw bone 9 years ago. Had to have a plastic surgeon sew back the muscle and then the skin. I hate those worthless MFers with a passion. And he was "good" dog, too. I just don't get how every week kids are being mauled, some to death, and people still want these rabid animals.

These dogs aren't going anywhere. If their owners could be more responsible owners and parents more watchful of their children around these dogs(including teaching their children how to be around dogs) we would see less of these incidents.

That's a great point and youre 100% correct. The problem is, the type of people that actually think it's ok to keep a pitbull in the same house (trailer?) as a child are the same people that are incredibly irresponsible, dont raise their children the right way and also have no clue how to train animals. It's not a coincidence this happens to lower class people all the time. When's the last time you heard about an upper class family owning/keeping a pitbull in the house and it killed one of their kids?

It's time for these dogs to be government regulated. If u own one, a permit is needed. Thus you will be fully responsible

I got bit by a lab when I was little. For no reason I was just walking the street.

Same with my cousin too when he was young.

Eradicate the breed!!

It doesn't shock me that dogs bite. Hell...pugs have the capacity to bite.

You take that back! My poor pug has been poked, tugged upon, grabbed by the tail, pug slammed, and bashed over the head by all manner of children's swords, and she has never bitten anyone. In fact the only aggression she has shown in her seven years was when someone brought over this D-Bag dog who kept trying to steal her treat after eating his own. She rolled him good, but it was after the other dog attacked her. I DEMAND RETRACTION!

Pit bulls should be wiped off the face of the earth.

re: 6 year old girl in coma, will never speak again, due to pit bulls

quote:

And we've had cases where the pit was the family dog and had been around the child a lot. The family didn't raise the dog to be agressive and the dog had no history of it. Again..the child may have taken it's toy or gotten too close to it's food and the dog, sensing a threat to it's territory, attacked.

This is the reason I cannot fathom why anyone in their right mind would own one of these ticking time bombs.

I posted the stats on pit bull attacks on a thread a few months back and was excoriated for it.

Dogs are still animals. No matter how much we love them and train them...they are still animals that have the ability to act unpredictable.

True. But you yourself posted what amounts to the key difference though....

quote:

I'm sure the ER gets dog bites from several different types of breeds of dogs.

However...the ones that actually need to be admitted, that require plastic surgery....are typically the pit bull bites. Again...because of the strength of the jaws. I don't work in the ER so I couldn't tell you what kind of bites exactly they see. I just see the ones that end up admitted to the pediatric floor for antibiotics and a plastic surgery consult.

That's the issue. A poodle is capable of biting a child...it's just that the child isn't gonna be disfigured because of it.
