re: Does New Orleans need a new stadium?

Everyone here knows Nola's attractiveness has as much to do with the city's total package as it does the stadium itself. It is THE premier location for the Super Bowl in the US IMO.

That said, I do think they are improvements that can be made. The video boards are pretty pitiful and the concourses and amenities could really all use a pretty big makeover. That said, those are absolutely peripheral things that shouldn't deter a bid. But they wouldn't hurt to be improved.

I think New Orleans was robbed by the owners because they all know that renovations and new stadiums are largely subsidized by the tax payers so they want the cities building new stadiums to get the Super Bowl. This will push more NFL cities to want new stadiums to leech off the citizens.
Some one should take a long hard look at the fact that the NFL and its teams are categorized as NON-Profit, TAX EXEMPT entities!

It's clear now that the NFL is dangling a Super Bowl carrot -- and by that I mean jump to the front of the line -- so that taxpayers can subsidize the billionaire owners. And New Orleans/Louisiana taxpayers should not have to pay for something like that when there are a litany if infrastructure issues that are higher priority. Historical relevance/atmosphere/ease of access, etc. be damned. It's now officially about publicly funding a league full of JerryWorlds.
Nailed it. You build a 1 billion dollar stadium for an NFL team, you are getting the Super Bowl. It's pretty damn simple. It was never a competition.

Exactly this. Jacksonville, Detroit, NYC, Indy and Minneapolis all point this fact out. NFL would rather extort money from cities than provide a Super Bowl fans the best experience.

Talk about a video board is BS. The Super Bowl attendees are a majority of corporate sponsors that aren't concerned replays of their team and replays.

Bottom line, this is about rewarding cities that shell out for a new stadium and new revenue streams for the NFL owners.

you won't find a multi-million dollar corporation that's not subsidized in some way by a City, Parish/County, State, or even the Fed...

it's how you keep businesses, jobs, and tax dollars from leaving your area.

In the end, it usually ends up as a wash. Or the municipality ends up on the losing end, But in the process, people get the jobs and the city gets the cash flow.

EVERYTHING IS SUBSIDIZED!

This is why New Orleans didn't get the stdium
quote:

How is the project being financed?

Of the project’s $975 million upfront capital costs, $477 million, or 49% of the stadium cost, will be paid by private funds made up of a combination of Vikings private financing and equity and the MSFA’s sale of Stadium Builder’s Licenses (SBLs). The Vikings private financing and equity includes certain NFL financing in the form of a loan repaid by stadium revenues. The Stadium Builder’s Licenses program was authorized by the Minnesota legislature in the 2012 stadium legislation (for more on SBLs, click here).

LINK

The NFL is setting the narrative that they like to award cities who publicly invest in new stadiums. When really, they are on the hook for a loan to Minnesota, the same as they are in Dallas and probably all the other stadiums built in the last 10 years. A Superbowl goes a long way to hedging their bet. New Orleans, never stood a chance.

The dome is a great football facility until you sit in the end zone seats and realize you can't even see the end zone that you sit in. Then you realize it sucks as a football stadium. This stadium was built as a duel sports stadium and not really good for either. Time for a new stadium.

Not true. My tickets are in the end zone of the terrace. I can see everything clearly.

The very corner of the end zone is cut off due to the wheel chair accessibility. Stand up and you can see it just fine for the 4 plays it impacts a game

Pretty shitty reason to tear it down and build a billion dollar waste of money

I used to think so, but not now. The improvements are great (although there's more to do). The exterior is one of the most magnificent sights at night in sports.

There is one small area that has an obstructed view of the corner of the end zone. You speak like someone who has only gone to a game in the Dome a few times on cheap seats. Obstructed views in a very small percentage of seats (almost nothing) is not a reason for a new stadium.

No.. Get the new scoreboards and we are good. But too the dude who said the dome is nicer than jerry world... Yeah right. I went to that place for the turkey day game and felt like it was x-mas day when I was 7 years old. It was amazing.

Bounty - gate.

Pure and simple, the NFL was not going to be seen rewarding the Saints.

I don't have any obstructed views in my seats in the endzone. Must be on the other side or at a certain height/angle. I'm in section 533. Been having those tickets for like 9 years.

That's the only thing wrong with the Dome, the weak scoreboards and replay boards.

The set up with Champion's Square, The Smoothie King Center, Benson Tower and New Orleans as a whole is raved about by all who host events in New Orleans and we would just take that and throw it out the window for a new toy whenever there is nothing wrong with the Superdome as it is. You move the stadium out the city, which is likely to happen if they build a new one, and you ruin the experience that everyone enjoys.
