re: Does New Orleans need a new stadium?

In a word, NO.

In more words, the Superdome is a staple of the city skyline. Ir's an amazing structure with a ton of history. But most importantly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Superdome. At least nothing that can't be fixed. We don't need some fancy new retractable roof stadium.

As much as I like the dome, it's reaching the point where new stadium avenues must be explored. I think the superdome has reached critical mass in terms of being able to be renovated/upgraded. More space is needed in the concourses, better plumbing and ingress/egress to the stadium. A lot of the "fixtures" just seem to be dated.
disagree. Everyone wants the new "toy." However, the Dome has had hundreds of millions of dollars in renovations. Couple that with the external improvements like Champions Square, and I do not think a "new stadium" should be discussed for another 12-20 years.

Couldn't agree with you more. You can't expect an NFL team to play in an old stadium. Get it together, New Orleans!

Signed,

Soldier Field and Lambeau Field

Edit: Seriously, New Orleans will continue to get SBs, just not every single one it wants...and, even if it's put back into "Super Bowl probation" like it was in the early 2000s (and like San Diego and Miami are now), then the question is simple: does the massive cost to the city and state of building a new stadium justify getting the occasional Super Bowl?

The state and city are dead broke. I don't believe there is a damn thing wrong with the Dome, but regardless, there are no public funds to build a new stadium.

You don't think Roger Goodell had a hand in the selection process? There is no way the owners swung that way, basically telling Mr. Benson no, when everyone knows it will probably be his last chance to host the game.

In the terrace, you could make an argument. That's about it.

better plumbing

??

and ingress/egress to the stadium.

care to expand on this?

that is a "problem" at any stadium when you have 60k people coming and going at the same time.

I can not understand how people expect to be able to get in their car and just hit the road flying after football games ......

If the Saints wanted a new stadium, they would get a new stadium

And it really isn't that bad. The few times where I had to drive to BR right after probably took around 2 hours

There is no way that owners decided to support incentives for getting them new stadiums?

Goodell is a pawn of the owners. He does what they want, not the other way around

Its foolish you even ask this. The dome just went through millions in renovations in recent years. $85 million in first 6 months of 2011 and $336 million since 2006. Its not happening anytime soon.

Agree. We just need screens, the walls recolored, and the sideline barrier walls covered in something besides that awful squiggly lines bull shite.

It's clear now that the NFL is dangling a Super Bowl carrot -- and by that I mean jump to the front of the line -- so that taxpayers can subsidize the billionaire owners. And New Orleans/Louisiana taxpayers should not have to pay for something like that when there are a litany if infrastructure issues that are higher priority. Historical relevance/atmosphere/ease of access, etc. be damned. It's now officially about publicly funding a league full of JerryWorlds.

Not sure how it is elsewhere, but I can leave my seat in 205 at 0:00 and be at my friend's house in Lakeview in like 25 minutes tops.

re: Does New Orleans need a new stadium?
NO!

In totality New Orleans blows away any competition for a SB...especially Minneapolis.

They were awarded solely based on the stadium. The NFL is a major whore. At some point cities need to grow a set and tell them to pound sand.

Let's have our 300th anniversary and not mention the NFL the entire year. If they want to have a primetime game and discuss the anniversary, deny their request.

This city helped make the SB and not the other way around.
