Saw an instagram video of Jarell Martin balling in the LSU practice gym with Brandon Sampson. Are we the front runner for him?

There hasn't been much on his recruitment (last article little over 2 months ago) but I think he's the top priority at SG for the staff. While Newman is the best guard, I don't think we'll have much a shot with him.

Once the summer camps start, there will be much to write on.

I can't remember if he's named some schools of interest. I know his coach had some comments about what Brandon's looking for.

He's ours to lose IMO. His offer list will probably grow this summer he'll be playing in some elite camps. Arizona is the prime competition at present time. If Martin were to stick around 3 years so they could play together again he's a lock.

Brandon's little brother plays for a team that my son plays for. My son plays for the 9-11 yo team and Brandon's brother plays for the 12-14 yo team so I see Them a lot. Brandon comes to practice with his mom and his brother and fwiw she reps LSU hard by having a different LSU shirt on whenever I see her. I think we're at the top for him. He will explode onto the national scene next year.

He's already a top 50 kid on most services. He may get pushed up enough to get some AA game invites though.

I keep watching Crandel dominate the local aau scene. I have to believe he is good enough to have made red storm. Just chose to play with his friends instead.

He is an upcoming senior. Can really play.

2015 SG Antonio Blakeney is playing Nike League ball with Ben Simmons.

Top-25 junior Antonio Blakeney among 2015's best guards

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The E1T1 AAU squad for this spring and summer is centered on the frontcourt. LSU-pledge Ben Simmons might be the best player in the country, and Daniel Giddens and Alex Owens are four-star big men.

Having so much attention on the forwards and post players has helped one player the most, though: scoring guard Antonio Blakeney.

“It helps a lot, because they're going to focus in on Ben, Daniel and Alex,” Blakeney said over the weekend. “I just have to knock the shots down when they come.”

Blakeney, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Oak Ridge (Fla.), put up 18 points in the EYBL opener and averaged 12.0 points on the weekend. He stays in attack mode throughout the game, but is a good decision-maker when it comes to getting to the rim or pulling up and knocking down a jumper.

Once he gets going on the offensive end, Blakeney is difficult to stop.

“My biggest goal is to undefeated,” Blakeney said. “Another goal is to get better and get more offers.”

It seems he's doing just fine in that category, with Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina, Florida, USC, Florida State, Missouri, Providence, LSU and others extending offers thus far. Kentucky also watched him over the weekend at the Nike EYBL Sacramento.

Blakeney has taken unofficial trips to Louisville, Missouri, Florida and Florida State.

Florida has the in-state edge, but Louisville is also considered a frontrunner.

“It was good,” Blakeney said of his visit. “They had a good campus. I got to meet some of the players and got to see how coach Pitino coached.”

Blakeney is ranked No. 23 in the 247Sports Composite

An Article on Brandon Sampson as well LINK. It focuses on St. Johns but there are some other tidbits:

quote:

Sampson said he also lists Arizona, LSU, Texas A&M and Mississippi State among those recruiting him the hardest.

Jones said coaches from Arizona, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M also watched Sampson this weekend.

“They’ve probably been on him the hardest,” Jones said.

Jones also said Sampson would likely take officials to Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and UCLA or USC in addition to St. John’s.

LSU is “10-12 minutes” from his home and has the hometown pull.

“Them being right in Louisiana, they’re always able to check up on me, like three times a week,” he said. “I can go see the campus any time I want.”

Asked if it would be appealing to play there, he said, “I’m thinking about it.”

Still, Sampson said, “I’m still open” and he doesn’t plan on cutting his list until later this summer

I was hoping Simmons could play a role with this kid. Hopefully he wants to play with him in college.

I was just surprised he listed LSU. Borzello's tweet that led me to the story even included LSU:

Just have to hope that Simmons and Blakeney become very good friends and that Simmons may keep LSU in the race long enough.

Very interesting!

I don't think Bridgewater will be a part of the program.

Why did Deng not come here in the first place? I read that he just wanted to play JUCO one more year, but is that the real reason?

Pretty sure he couldn't qualify.
